  • KTM Duke 2014 ABS light on

    Hi fella bikers,

I own a 2014 DUKE 390. I had buttons on my speed meter damaged and a new meter costs approximately INR 7000. I instead replaced the upper shell which is sold after market for INR 1000.

Before replacing the speedo meter shell my 'ABS' light was 'ON' & goes off at times. I assumed it must be the bad rubber buttons and replaced it with new shell. After replacing 'upper shell' the issue still remains the same.

On 2 occasions when the service center did a diagnostic test (no error found) They also erased the codes and asked me to check if the issue resolved. After a few KMS the issued was not resolved.

I did a 20 KMS ride without using the back break and just used the front break & the 'ABS' light was off while in motion. This time when i was arriving closer to the service center i used the back break only and the 'ABS' light turned 'ON' .

This was the third time i did a diagnostic test and the result was ERROR CODE 5015 'PUMP MOTOR MALFUCTION' (CURRENT)

I was informed i change the 'ABS PUMP' which will cost INR 19800

Can anyone help me understand if the 'ABS PUMP REPLACEMENT WILL RESOLVE THE ISSUE'

MY BIKE HAS ONLY DONE 20,000 KMS AND PERIODCALLY MAINTAINED WITH A 1ST CLASS PARKING?

Majority of the owners face this issue. Mine is also a 2014 model and failed at some 55k km and now using bike without speedo/odo meter working. Recently, there was smoke from the controller and it got fully blown with a hole in the body. Don't wanna spend on new one as it'll also fail eventually per some other users who had replaced. That particular part number ABS controller is plagued with issues. Searched scrap markets length and breadth of Kerala and also Coimbatore for one and yet to find one in working condition. They replaced with new controler and ECU in 2015 or later model per one of the KTM mechanics and need to replace entire wiring kit and ECU to make it compatible.

If you wanna diy on the abs, do check out my post.

Im sure you d have already done the obvious of cleaning the 2 sensors, resetting ecu, check and clear fault codes. Ride and then check if abs works or not.

If it still shows error, need to replace or diy.

I think you'd know this but anyway I'm gonna tell this. ABS light stays on when you first turn on the ignition with engine not running. When you crank the engine it should go off after a few seconds or after a few seconds once bike is in motion and ABS detects it. These two signs mean your ABS system is fully operational.
You're saying that it ABS light was ON and went off at times. Please compare with what I wrote and verify it wasn't this what you were experiencing.

If its not like what I'm saying then did this ABS light coming on and off happen before the speedometer took damage or after? If after then some wiring must have gone kaput.

I was informed i change the 'ABS PUMP' which will cost INR 19800

Ask the service center to try installing a spare ECU for checking if the same error code comes up again. If it does come up again then maybe your Pump or wiring related to it might be shot. We should start by looking at options which can resolve the issue fully before looking at last resorts. They will tell you to replace the pump and it saves them time and more money into their pocket.

Can you tell the part number? As mine was a brush wear and tear and expected for a 2014 bike. I was hoping the motor was a brushless. Btw none of the svc repairs it, all they do is ask for a replacement.
