  • Run in procedure for New HH HUnk

    Hello All,

Can you please state the standard run-in procedure for new HH Hunk.
Also can you please advice on gear changes at certain RPMs.

    Thank you,

    Query Approved.

I am sure all this is mentioned clearly and quite concisely in the user manual that you must have received when you had bought your Hero Honda Hunk.

..........first of all.........congrats for your new HHH!!

runnig-in is the most important part of owning a new bike........all the basic guilelines are surely given in the owners' manual, as ARYAN rightly sadi.....the top speeds allowed for each gear will be surely there.......but about the RPM range for each gear, the HHH owners will be in best position to guide you.....basic rules are....1. dont pull the bike beyond top recommended speed/rpm for any perticular gear....2.do not ride on low speeds/rpm either for a particular gear....it badly strains the engine....3.first start/cold start should be kick...followed by the idle time (recommended in the manual again)....making sure that the idle speed is also set as per guidelines....5.when cruising in top gear, vary your speed frequenlty...6.change oil at intervals given in manual....top up if required........wat else????.............HHH owners, chip-in......

      enjoy ur bike bro.......

Nopes, I don't think anything will be mentioned in the HH manual... except to take care for the 1st 500 km or something, etc.

The engine will likely get quite hot during the 1st few hundred km... so take care to not let it get too hot. Besides this do not either lug the bike or speed too much (wrt each gear). Don't hold any particular speed for long. These are general break in procedures in a nutshell, though they will very likely not he mentioned in HH manuals.

Also make sure you change oil within the 1st 500 km... though it may be good if you change it sooner. Cleaning of screen and centrifugal filter is to be done at 1st service... something which the service center will not do with 99.9% probability.

Thanks for the info. I had gone thru the Manual but nothing is mentioned about the run in procedure. So could some one please post the details like the gear change wrt RPM, max speed in each gear etc.

I had noted the points like

1.Dont cross max speed of 50.
          2.Kick start in the morning.
          3. vary speeds
4.Keep the engine idle for 1 minute.

Any more things should I follow?

You tried it personally? If so how many kms did the engine last? Just curious.
Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!

Nobody can give you such details when they have not been documented (gear change wrt RPM, etc.)... your engine will tell you... and use commonsense.

Kick starting in the morning has nothing to do with running in. At best, it will give a longer battery life. Personally, I use kick start only when I'm using my bike after a 4 - 7 days (as in this case, it often take a bit longer to start using self-starter)

Air filter and centrifugal filter are totally different. The name is mnemonic, it works on the principle of centrifugal force to keep the oil clean. The company recommends cleaning it (and the screen filter at the time of 1st service (500 - 700 km) and thereafter every 10k km or something). You can be pretty sure the HH ASS wont do it unless you get it done right under your nose.

Freakyarch, what kinda stuff (if at all) did you find on the filter screen when you cleaned it? And what was the odo reading when you did this?

In fact the most important running in proceduce I'd say is to prevent the ASS from raping your bike at the 1st service... lol! Forget the other things... but don't underestimate this one!

Mototuning is a v controversial method. Personally, I'm not ready to try it out.
