Hey Chandru, its not an uncommon thing-most Pulsars drink oil at some stage or the other. If the job is done by Bajaj, it will be reliable enough, no doubt.
On the other hand, I think you like the R15 a lot! This might just be the right time to go for it!

@Sarvajit I have to get it check from another service center may be the pro-biking service center before getting to any conclusion. If they say the same thing about the bike, then would not have any other option than buying a new one. New pulsar 220 is going to be launched(I hope it's true ) soon. If i am changing the bike, i would go for it.

The bajaj service centre guys inspected my friends P150 UGII and said the same thing. He was almost about to change the bore.
But accidentally( yes accidentally) I took it to th Castrol bike zone and they inspected it and said only the clutch plate ( the whole kit rather was screwed). They changed it and its so smooth now.
they told me that there was nothing wrong with the Engine.
please get it checkd from a reliable source.

Hmm, get it checked at a couple of places.
But the thought of touring with you on a 220 tempts me more!

No dude, Not all the pulsar bikes get this problem, i have seen pulsars like 4 yrs old and they run good with no problems at all.

Yeah my Pulsar 150 DTS-i 2004 runs exceptionally well, just got the head and valve cleaned up at 50,000 and now doing 70,000+ with 60kmpl+ and great pickup with that authentic engine sound.

It is common for mechanics to misguide. One mechanic from Bajaj's workshop took me for a test ride and suggested changing clutch plates, timing chain, and even the valve, for mileage and power, verbally he made a large bill, and also suggested getting the bike fixed at his workshop on sunday. Days later I complained this incident to the dealership owner and he was about to fire the mechanic. This happens everywhere, its important for the enthusiastic rider to keep his senses tuned for cheats.

However, I found a great mechanic at the same workshop who suggested absolutely no extra work just some fine tuning, cleaning and lubricating. After his work I'm back on road and the bike feels great to ride.

IMHO, Engine Bore is required after mishandling of motorcycle and when excessive engine oil leaks even with the new seal. If thats the case then that would be the only solution. It ain't that costly and I would say only if you want to buy a new bike you consider selling it, else there's still a lot of juice left to be extracted.

iam getting some bad smell of fuel from the engine....how to tackel this??

same here bro... My bike is a Feb 2007 make and has clocked 40000km so far....
I showed my bike to lot of mechanics and got the same reply from each one of them...
The oil level in my bike too keeps on dipping and the reason for it is the blcok piston...
Even I am required to change the block piston, rings, valves, timming chain.
Have to change the fron and the rear tyre, have to get the fork thru and many other stuff.. Estimatted expense is Rs 9.5-10k (inc. labour)
I am getting 35k for my bike at this stage too(cuz I haven told the dealer about all these problems )
So basically I am getting 45 k for this bike, if I spend 10k on my bike...
I am selling it in a day or two, just waiting for the NOC from the bank so that I can get the bike on my name and will sell it off then...
Its not that I dun love my bike, the mere thought of selling my bike made me cry the other day...But we have, rather I have only two options.
1.Either think by my heart or
2.Think by my mind...

So far I have decided to sell it off, wait for the rains to go and collect some money and buy a Unicorn ...
Will test ride 220 DTsi soon and re think on my decision...
But mostly,

@ceasar- the bad smell of fuel might be due to adulterated petrol..try changing the filling station...Also put your bike on main stand and pull the rpm close to 8500 for a sec or two..see if there's any white smoke...if there is, u need to get the engine overhaul done which includes piston,cylinder block,valves and various other things to be changed..i say so coz the bad smell might be due to burning engine oil..

Bad Fuel Smell = Excessive fuel??

Check the choke wire. Check volume screw in the carburetor. And check for the smoke at higher acceleration.

How to find if the bore has a problem.

I have been monitoring the oil levels on my bike every 2days. It's the same since the servicing which was like 2 weeks back.

How would i check if there is a white smoke through exaust. I did try keeping it on main stand and kept the bike on 6000+ rpm for about 15 seconds, but no white smoke. Should i repeat the experiment again and keep the bike on higher rpm for more time or something.

Please do let me know the different ways of finding if the bore has a problem.
