    downshift problem in the fz16

    hi all ,
    I am from Bangalore , I got the Yamaha fz16 on Monday , I have clocked only about a 100km on the bike till now and i am facing an unusual problem . The up-shifts on the bike are really smooth and give me no trouble at all , whereas on the other hand the down-shifts at times gives me a real headache as the bike absolutely refuses to shift down and when it happens in traffic it really gets troublesome . this generally happens while shifting from 4th to 3rd . I dunno if i am doing something wrong or if somethings wrong with the bike . please help me ... another thing i took elivery of the bike withut getting the license plate painted so will the yamaha guys do it fot me now or do i have to look elsewhere ?

      Simplest thing to do, take it to yamaha and get it inspected. If they find it ok then its only because its a brand new bike. You need getting used and so does all the internal parts of the bike. It might be a lil tight and with time it will become smoother.

      As for the Number plate, I'm sure the Yamaha guys will do it for you , or get it done for you from outside.

          i also had the same problem with my new FZ-S, i took it to Yamaha, the mech over there opened the clutch, took the plates out and tried to make the spring a little loose, it was still there but as i rode more and more it became better & now totally gone. i think its because its a new bike, it will get better with time.

                  I have the same problem, it has been a while and it has not dissolved yet.. how long did i take for your's to go away ?

                  I had my shifter spring changed , didn't solve the problem. ideas ?

                    If you have changed your Gear Shaft's spring and the problem still exist then its probably a faulty Gear Shaft!

                      TIghtening the clutch cable ie: adjusting the clutch lever free play will solve the downshift issue

                        The best thing u can do is take your bike Bangalore wheels (yamaha showroom ) near Rajajinagar tell them about the problem they will solve it
                        but u have to put some butter while talking to them .....
                        but i advise u take u don't open your clutch at least till your first service ......
                        If your completely unable to down shift from 4th to 3rd they leave your clutch lever till the half way after shifting,Then you wont be facing any problem

                          thanks for the input ,

                          the bike in question is a 9 month old yamaha fazer , it has run an odd 4000kms, so the bike isnt new, but the problem is new.

                          When I reported the problem, the svc mechanic took out the clutch plates and replaced a spring underneath it , but it did not help.

                          What else could be the source of the problem ? (I will take a look at the clutch free play right away )

                              Whoops spoken too early ..while adjusting the clutch freeplay did help but the shifts are not as smooth as they used to be .. they are just too clunky .. after depressing the shifter lever it doesnt come back up ..

                              Help needed again !
