  • leaking head..!

    Hi guys,

I have a P180 v1. There is a leak from the engine head.

What could be the issue. i went to auto service ( bangalore , banashakri)
but they just put a sealant at the head. but its started again. What is the cause of this any idea. any permanent damage to the engine ?

Right now i use Motul 3000 VT plus.20w40. but the leak was there even when was using the castrol power 1 and the castrol synthetic..so..

      Isnt a 20W50 grade required for 180's?

Using a sealant is the only solution for a leaking head.

i got mine uni's head rectified by machining head and using m-seal with new rubber seal on head cover.. leaks reduced to none .

Sealants don't last long, I guess the head covers or whatever need to be replaced. Had same problem from my UG3, AS, just used some sealant, but did'nt work, so had to change the head cover.. or something like that at my local SC, and now after 15K kms no problem, whatsoever.

            Hi ArvinRichards,

Like people have mentioned here you have 2 options:
            1) Get a new head and MORE IMPORTANTLY A NEW GASKET
            2) You can get the original head machined so that the mating surfaces are smooth and then go in for a NEW GASKET. Since it is a joint that has to withstand pressure I recommend that you go in for a new gasket and on the gasket you can apply the sealant. This will ensure 2 things: (1) The gasket will seat properly on the newly machined surface (2) The sealant will occupy the micro voids that the gasket might miss out.

Anyways, good luck getting it fixed!!

            Regards,

thanks guys (Arnie rahuldevnath viv.nomad and insanebiker)

so what i have here is not a major issue right ?

i will be giving the bike for service on this tuesday mostly. Hopefully things will get sorted out then.

in the mean while guys , do you know how much it would put me down to get the gasket changed ? or get it machined ?

there's only 3 things u need to take care of

                  1. gasket mating surfaces - machine them if they aint right
                  2. right gasket of right thickness and quality
3 clean mating surfaces and right torque applied to the head bolts

this work needs some patience.I had this issue with my Bullet. What was done to resolve was :
                      1)"face" the two mating surfaces.
                      2)Good quality gasket.
                      3)A good Mechanic with Patience.
