  • Iba - run

    Hi All,

Me & Frank are planning an IBA RUN.
Please help us out in deciding the Route & Time.

Our Plans as of now are -

    2 Pulsar 220s 1700 kms.
The Ride has to be 825kms + on one side and return.
We are planning it in August/September.

We need help on road conditions, Traffic conditions - with timings, Weather conditions, Positioning & distances of Petrol bunks/ATMs in major cities/towns(For proofs of travel) which are on the Highways.

We also require real time info about traffic & Weather at the time of RUN.

    Any other help is appreciated.

We also want to dedicate this ride to xBhp.
We would also like to have sponsors if any.

we'r actually on the lookout for the best route on the GQ, and inputs from members situated near the GQ can greatly help us in this run. our present option is Vizag - chennai - vizag (825+825 km) members can suggest a better route anywhere in India, as the route should be suitable for the run, with speeds over 110 kph to be maintained en-route.

Roads from vizag to kanyakumari are absolute butter smooth. All the stretch is complete. No pending works at all.

ya, but the actual plan is to start from Vijayawada which is the mid point to me (Rajahmundry) and prabhakar(Hyderabad), but to acheive 825+825 km, we need to cross chennai either towards kanyakumari or Banguluru. and to cross chennai, there is no by-pass available, so we dropped that plan because we will significantly loos time riding though city, and decided to do start from vizag - chennai- vizag, but the GQ is soo vast, there should be a nice super smooth traffic free stretch of 825 km lying somewhere. so members, plz let us know about the route (GQ) in your area. so we can travel with our bikes there & start the IBA from there

            @ Srijan, check this out

I am also intersted in saadle sore ride .
But need to up my inventory for that first.

Coming to your ride...Vizag to Chennai and back appears to be feasible route. But as its monsoons. you can expect rains all the time, and that to the costal route that you guyz chose. Since this wud be only a 24Hr trip. So keep a view on satelite images before starting.

I've read a lot of riding stories. Most of the riders have preference to find the best quality road and nice weather for long ride, however, the real test of man and his machine pops up only on tough roads and bad weather.

In and around my area I've covered a lot of distance exploring land. I've taken P150 to well made roads but with large humps where changing clutch is mandatory, in the end the hand pain is unbearable, I've also done a ride in a valley all off road and it was scary. A total run of around 280kms got me exhausted.

Whenever I ride, I give preference to get maximum fuel efficiency from the bike. I've done some 350kms on State Highway with mercury 44, and it was enough to blow me up and my bike. I remember taking few brakes and the engine was not even close to normal temp.

With my experience I believe a real rider is more concerned in setting a balance between himself and his bike rather checking on weather and road. I may not have driven on best highways of India, but I do know what is the pleasure to ride on a plain and simple road, the fun is only for a few moments. I feel the real ride only when me and my bike both starts overheating or my vision getting blocked with heavy rain. That's what I enjoy.

However, wish you luck for your ride. My post might have been useless, but just thought of clearing my mind up. If you need any help feel free to ask, I would be more than pleased, if I can in anyway.

Aayush quite true you are, but lets not forget an IBA run is an endurance test in itself. I would perhaps not like to add more spice to it by choosing a route that has less of tarmac and more of Dust, cattle, waterfall, snow, traffic.

if ever I think of something like this, I would stick to a route that has good roads and lesser traffic, I personally would like to finish the Record run rather than posing around or negotiating the traffic ,.
IBA run should ideally be clutch less, if you know what I mean.

So am with Frank and Prabhakar on deciding on to choose a better way, it definitely is not the Easy way.

                      Peace!
