was planning the same over a month ago. a few inputs from me -

          - summer like May is probably the best time for a saddle sore run as the sunlight is available for maximum time and very less chances for rain

I consider the day light and rain to be the biggest problems that slow you down a lot. most other things can be taken care of to a good extent otherwise.

          - post 10PM you will get stuck very badly in Chennai if you plan to take the Bangalore Highway from NH5. Before that it is not a hassle.

          - Vizag to Chennai is probably the best route you can to all in one long stretch... expect little delays in Vijayawada and the road between Vijayawada & Guntur is a little uneven. Other than this there is concrete road between Anakapalli & Tuni (am I correct with the place names???) that can be irritatingly bumpy and also riding in the dark here isn't as good as on a tar road due to unwanted reflection.

          - the whole NH5 has a bad flies' problem durng sun rise and sunset hours

          - do not rely on Petrol Pump bills or card payment slips... look out for ATM's. Almost every town or a considerably village on the highway has ATM's.

          - I believe you are aware that you have to do A to B and B to A trip and have proofs from the same place at the place A while starting and while ending the trip. May be you pickup a place with two ATM's at your starting point and take slips from both.

          - have many more things to write but am feeling tiered... damn this cold! all my energy is lost in sneezing out my running nose!!!

As U noticed we are planning Srikakulam to Chennai(Pozhal) & Return to Srikakulam.
            Total 1800km.
this will ensure that we don fall short if IBA officials look for the shortest routes also.
The Shortest Distance from Srikakulam to Pozhal(Outskirts of Chennai) is 840km one way.

I checked the route from Vijayawada to Vizag during my Araku trip in June.
I also checked the route from Vijayawada to Nellore last week.
            What U said was perfect.
I was just explaining the same to frank about the road.
However I do not have any idea about the road from Nellore to Chennai & vishakhapatnam to Srikakulam.
Please let us know if U know more about this part too.

We are planning this on 2 pulsar 220s.
We are going for Night breaker lamps to counter the night riding.
As u knw this is the best combination of lighting possible.

The Flies are indeed really irritating which I noticed.
We'll plan our breaks during these times to avoid them as much as possible.

We are on the look out for the ATMs too.

Will be waiting for ur next Post.

It is NOT imperative that you MUST make it back to A on attempting a round trip. Do check the regulations

@Hitanshu, the info I got to know is that the rules aren't as flexible for India. I may be wrong. But, if you haven't made it back to point A in return but still completed the required mileage in time, how'd one prove that to IBA? You need an ATM / CC transaction slip and also a witness... the person you have arranged for witness would then have to ride/drive along with you for some distance

                @Prabhakar
It has been a long time since I checked the Vizag - Srikakulam route... it was a two lane road then but we used to do 80KMPH steady on a Samurai

How ever that road is, you would loose time in crossing Visakhapatnam (from Madhurawada till Steel Plant) at most times of the day.

Route from Nellore till Chennai or further down is an absolute delight.

My problem with night riding is not just how good our head lamp is but it is about how bad the opposite headlamps blind our eyes. You are anyways trying your best with a good light on ur bike and with a good visor to your helmet... let us hope for the best.

on a saddle sore run you would not have the luxury of taking a long break to avoid the flies problem. Make sure each of you is carrying colling spray and soft tissue papers (or what ever else you use) to clean the visors as & when needed.

Pozhal, the point of return, make sure you can get at least two ATM's there.

We'll start at 5am in Srikakulam.
So we'll be reaching Vizag by 6.
At this hour we may not have much of traffic.

I still don have any answer for the flies which tourers like U who travel in those routes regularly need to give.

I'm Using the AGV helmet with a Clear Visor.
Will be carrying a L&M Lens Cleaning spray.
                  It removes glare completely.
This may solve it to an extent.
                  Please advise.

Sure will contact the Chennai xBhpians for the ATM locations.

There's no way out of this. If more flies hit your visor you stop and clean the visor. That's it. Any more stunts with this situation might cost you dear

Congrats on getting your first sponsor!

As I said we'll try to keep our breaks during those times.
May be the short breaks whtever are possible during tht time.
Yes we'll clean them as frequently as possible.

                          Thnks KP!!!

                          Trying for more Sponsors now.
