  • Problems with my Unicorn--Expert advices are welcomed

There are problems in my Unicorn. The problems started showing by the end of last week. Last Sunday, while I was going to my friend's place, it rained heavily. So I stopped by the road side and waited for the raining to stop.after 5 minutes,I thought of moving, but the bike was not working.

The self-start wasn't working. There was no horns, no indicators, no lights...Everything related to battery and electricals wasn't working.

So I went to the service station. They told me that ,''maybe the relays are not working, or the battery has lost its charge''. So I said do, all the works hat are needed .I also said them that there is a problem with the kicker. They said that they will return the bike on friday, that is 17th of july. YEsterday, that is July 17th ,they called me to come at 4 pm.When I went there, they said that the bike is ok..When I test ride it, the same problem. The horns, the indicator, or the other things were not working. Also the speedometer was also not working.

They told me to wait. finally they gave me the bike at 7.45 pm.I took the bike to my home by paying Rs.741. and immediately as i reached Kaloor, one of the busiest junctions in kerala, the bike stopped. It wasn't even starting.

I called them. They didn't atend for sometime. After half an hour ,I tried again,They attended the phone, and cane after nother half an hour. He did something, and the bike started, but no electreicals were working. The workshop wala said that, I need to change battery.

What should I do. Expert advices are welcome.

check fusebox and contact points. The problem could lie there. Also get battery checked

        +1 ...

Plus check all wiring for any damage.

@roshan, Did HMSI svc center charged you Rs.741 ? What parts were replaced, just check the bill?

Yes probably the relays and the fuses are getting exposed to rains which is why they conk off often.

Check them from someone other than the HMSI workshop people.

First you gotta know what exactly they did and what they charged you for. You can't just leave it to them to solve problems... hardly ever works that way!

Don't believe them when they say change the battery. Just get your battery tested at some independant battery dealer first, since you don't know how to do it yourself. Ask for a load test, especially. You should do this first.

open the seat and on the right hand rear side of the bike, there are a couple of fuses..take each of them out and see..the speedometer might not be working due to mud having gotten stuck where the speedometer wires are attached to the front wheel..get it cleaned....in my opinion its just a minor fuse problem..

                    agree with Raccoon and Pavan.
+1 checking fuse means not visual inspection. Please use MutliMeter. Coz sometimes fuse blows out from any end which is not possible to see from the glass. If the fuse is Glass If plastic like car fuses then issue is diff. Then prolly check the Ignition key switch (not kill swtich) for continuty. Coz switch has got four wires. 1 set of wire for battery and 1 set of wire is for ignition.
