    Hi all,

I am planning to put Hella horns in my bullet as stock horn is not good for highways.

I was also thinking about Roots horn but one of my relatives told me that Roots consume more battery than Hella horns and roots are more heavy in weight than hella horns.

I am considering following models in Hella :

    a) Midi Horn Silver

    Pic :- http://www.hella.co.in/products_aftermarket.asp?mode=detail&pid=59

    Detail

    Voltage = 12V
Current consumption = 3.5 Amp (Max)
    Frequency:
    Low Tone = 350 Hz
    High Tone = 415 Hz
Sound pressure = 118 dB (at 2m from source)
    Resistance = 3 m/ Ohm min @ 500 meger
Type of sound = Vibrosonic Horn, Metallic
Life durability = As per IS1884:1993
    Part No. Midi Horn-Silver HT = IAM100-06
    Part No. Midi Horn-Silver Set = IAM100-03

    b) Red Grill Supertone - B133

Pic - http://www.hella.co.in/products_aftermarket.asp?mode=detail&pid=53Few Roots horns which i am also considering

    a) VIBROSONIC

    Pic - http://www.rootsindia.com/html/vibrosonic.html

    Details

    Voltage : 12 V
    Current Consumption : 4 A
Fundamental Frequency : High Tone : 505 Hz
    : Low Tone : 425 Hz
    Sound Pressure Level : 110 dB(A) Pair
    Weight in Kg : 0.7 ( Set )
Recommended to use in : Motor cycle, Car, Van

    b) MEGASONIC

    Pic - http://www.rootsindia.com/html/megasonic.html

    Details

    Voltage : 12 V 24 V
    Current Consumption : 4.0 A 3.0 A
Fundamental Frequency : High Tone : 395 Hz
    : Low Tone : 315 Hz
    Sound Pressure Level : 125 dB(A)
    Weight in Kg : 1.25
Recommended to use in : Car, Jeep, Van, Motor cycle

Please advice which would be the better option for my Bullet 350 without any modification in electricals.

    Thanks.

go for the roots vibrosonic.Every bulleters choice.Another advantage of roots is that its repairable and spares are easily available.Running it in my zen for more than 4 years.Still running without any glitch(touchwood). No major electrical mods required.Megasonic would be a little more loud.

I'm not a pro when it comes to HORN comparisons
but here is a small video in which I compared the
stock HORNS of my Pulsar 200 NS with the Hella Supertone

Has anybody used the Hella supertone red grill?
Does it have issues related to battery when installed?

On which bike? You gonna have problem if you install a 6.5 A horn on any bike
            6.5x12=78 wattx2=156 watt
            I am back!

                Re: Horns

156 watt of power consumption would drain the battery if you honk too much while in low RPM/idle. At idle the horn would not work if the headlamp is on, you can add a relay as a jugaad but this would put too much stress on the 14 Ah battery.

                  Re: Horns

I still couldn't resist putting a better horn...so got my mechanic to install them and also used a relay...he did a pretty neat job

They are ultra loud...!! These horns literally make humble men out of lane cutters..

                  Let's see how they'll fare...

                      Hi Guys

Installed Roots SmartTone 12v/3A horns to my FZ16.
Used a 3 pin Relay as well.
I'm sharing the pictures here (Video size is 142 MB so not uploading it).
Can anybody help me to identify the difference between low & high tone horns, EXTERNALLY.
I mean, Can we tell by looking at the horns that which one is High tone or Low.

The only Difference I see is the MARKING, Red & Blue.... Is it something for identifying High or Low?

Reviving an old thread, as my query is same as that of imbadenough, and I didn't want to create a new thread . The left horn on my UG2 P180 has gone kaput. It's a 9cm diaphragm Minda model. The mechanic says it's the High in the pair. How to make it out from the markings. There is no mention or frequency stamped on the horn body except for the brand name and model number.
