  • Buying used Bike Help needed

    Hi all

I am getting a used unicorn for a good price. interested to buy it. I will be the 3rd owner.

But before that what r the docs i need to check i.e. regarding the legal aspects since the bike already has changed 2 hands.
Is it possible to know the accident history of the bike (eg. if the bike was involved in a fatal accident or hit & run case)

Will it be safe to assume that the bike has no liabilities if the ownership gets transferred by the RTO?

@srpsinu: First off, How old is the bike? And when did the second owner buy/transfer it onto his name? If its just months or days or even otherwise please have the bike checked by an authorized service center for any probs/ accident history , possibilities are he is passing a lemon to you, its a personal experience thats why im sharing it with you. Apart from all this its a second owner bike so you could expect a drop in the resale value.

Coming back to your query, you should get the following docs.
1> Transfer form (dont know the number) stating previous owners name and address and the your name with time/date and both parties signature.
        2> RC Book
        3> Tax Book (optional)
        4> Insurance.
        5> PUC (If available)

And finally see that there is no hypothication on the RC, if there is see that its cancelled before you transfer it to your name, else you could be inviting trouble. Its better you get the transfer done by an RTO agent, less hassles. Good luck

Also in a stamp paper get it in writing that, the seller is selling the bike bearing that registration number to you on that date on that time for that amount and the previous owner is responsible for all liabilities prior to that date and time.

What year is the bike manufactured? Unicorn being a super reliable bike, If its a recent bike and it has had 2 owners already then check and recheck everything. Also enquire with the RTO if the owner is the one mentioned in the RC book and no case is registered with the bike.

              Thanks for all the replies.

Its a june 2005 model. 1st owner had hypothecation. IT was removed when transferred to 2nd owner.

I have got the bike checked technically & the mechs say nothing major except for a few scratches here & there ie silencer & leg guard( indicates the bike had few minor falls).

enquired with the rto agent & he says no case registered with the bike.

Just wanted to ask if there is any case registered with the bike can the ownership still be transferred to my name? Also if something(case) is discovered after the ownership change to my name what shall be my liability?
