  • Help:-Yamaha Rx 135

Hii friends, i own a Yamaha Rx 135 1998 model
I bikes top speed was 115 kmp/h,but recently i changed my bikes clutch plate and sprocket, but the original sprocket was not available so the mechanic fitted some desi sprocket. Now my bikes rpm decreased, my bike use to touch 80 in 3rd gear now it barely touches 70 kmp/h, and in 4th gear it dosent go beyond 100 km/hr. I told this problem to mechanic, he tuned the bike and told now you would have no problem in getting top speed of 115... but still my bikes barely touches 100 kmp/h. Please help
When approaching a corner, stay on the gas until you see Jesus. Then brake HARD.

did you changed all the clutch plates or single plate only..Its better to change the pressure plate also...
2>did you change your timing chain...
      3>or your chain is tight....
4>and the main your chain desi sprocket is the problem which was installed by that idiot mechanic.....

        1998 model means its a 4speed. A RX135 4speed has a true top speed of 100kph. Indicated speed might be around 110-115.

        • Either your speedo was over-optimistic early on and is now showing properspeeds after wear and tear
        • The mechanic might have put in smaller sprocket to improve acceleration and that might have affected top end.

I think you can start troubleshooting by looking at the following :

        • Check sprockets Fr and Rr - 4speed has 16/34 I believe - correct me if I am wrong.
        • Ensure that the chain-sprocket set is in good condition and that the play is adjusted properly and also that the chain is well lubed.
        • Check the clutch plates - if they are worn, it will affect performance.
        • Carb tuning - check the plug and get the carb tuned by a good mech.

BTW - have you changed over to yezdi rims or something ? Coz switching to smaller rear rim will also affect top end.

The 4 Speed Rx sprokets are of 16/37.... using 34 rear sproket will give you good low end but top speed will decrease. So do check that.
And yes check the clutch plates and go for genuine ones and also change the pressure plates...
And go to a decent mechanic...

PERSEVERE... failure is not an option!

Was this on a limited edition RX or some thing ""

The RX 4 speed came with 16-34 sprockets from the factory.
RXG was the only model in 4 speed with different sprocket sizes ( dont remember the sizes ) and with a different clutch bell.

I clocked 118 on the gun with 16/34 sprockets and 110 on the gun with 16/38 sprockets, so tell me which sprocket size gave less top end.

According to my knowledge the more higher (teeths) you go on rear sprockets the top end decreases and mid range and initial increases..
this is something new to me

Any ways congrats on the new discovery enjoy..

                  This is what I have heard/been told/read :

Smaller front sprocket : Better pickup - Acc ; less top end
Smaller Rear Sprocket : Better Top End , less Acc

4 speed bore had good accln , less top end : 16 at front and 34 at rear.

5Speed bore had god top end but they wanted better acceleration hence dropped the front sprocket to 15 and the rear sprockets to 38. So the entire idea of putting 15/38 on 5speed was to improve initial pickup.

Sprockets alone don't contribute to topend/pickup. Carb, bore etc all play their part. Sprockets are just one factor.
