Any bike will have this problem mate. Has to do with wear and tear of various parts - clutch, spark plug, air filter, tires and so on!

Was the decrease in top end soon after a scheduled servicing? They could have tuned it lean. SC guys usually do this, so that the rider gets more mileage. Ask your friend to take it to the Yamaha Service Center for a check up.

Keep ur bike serviced and maintained!
In this case ( read it ur frnds bike )
R15 being a replica is pretty vulnurable to dust and bad conditions!
It needs proper care from owners side..
So if ur frnd is properly caring his bike then this is a serious prob otherwise if he's just into riding and throwing then "ye to hona hi tha"

if everything else seems allright clean the air filter or replace it.

            Is there any tappet noise?

BTW, the R15 is such a lousy bike that it doesn't perform. It is waste, all hyped up, delicate, not suitable to Indian conditions and too expensive. If you want performance, buy the P220

I too had a similar issue, when Im riding at 140+ speedo indicated and then i left the throttle the top end speed decreased gradually.

I don't know if anyone else had a similar issue! wonder

Apart from the jokes, ask him to read the ownership thread here.

Please be a little more specific. How much has the top end decreased? How well is the bike kept? Has it been serviced properly and regularly? Any recent incidents after which the problem started? Has it been used in the city or for touring or both?
