  • Need Tips to Avoid bike's paint from fading

    Hey Bikers
I need some tips for avoiding my bike's paint from fading, rusts and save from scratches. I heard there are some coatings which will avoid fading, rusts and save from scratches. Heard about teflon coating and plastic coatings but I couldn't get more informations as what exactly it does. Can it save my bike from fading, rusts and scratches. Please shed some light on this .

I can't bear seeing my bike's faded smile.. Love to watch him with a Shining blush .

Yes it all depends upon how you maintain your Bike - follow the following tips to save your bikes shine for ever.......

1 - Bike scratches and fadding happens by the following factors apart from accidents
        * - Dust from road
        * - Wiping with harsh (non soft) clothes
        * - Hot weather
        * - Using detergent powders for cleaning the bike
        * - Using salt or water with more chlorine to clean the bike
        * - Covering your bike with tight covers

To avoid the above things....you need to follow a strict procedure of maintenance....
What is your colour of bike - if its Yellow, Red or Blue - then yes it will fade due to Hot weather.....
If its a Black Color - then scratches may occur easily
        * - Wash your bike with Good non chlorine water
        * - Wipe your Bike only with Soft cloth (pure cotton cloth)
        * - Use authorised Car wash shampoos to wash your bike this will avoid paint fading and retains the shine
        * - You can Coat your bike with Teflon but this costs more - so go for Waxing - Go for Carnabura Wax- there are many waxes available in market in many brand names...coat with that wax each week ......your bike will retain the lost shine and this forms a wax coating in your bikes paint - so will avoid fading and scratches too....
        * - Park your bike in a shaded area, so where no dust or sun can enter it....
        * DO no wipe your bike hardly - just brush it away with a cotton cloth....

        Hope this helps

I wud suggest the changing of the cloth from time to time also. keep two cloths one for cleaning with water, dip in full water and just clean with that without twisting. After you have done clean with a really dry cloth and twist the water out in intervals.

Above all before pouring water it really advisable to dust out the surface properly.....
Waxing is a really good option which will retain the shining for long time....

I would have to disagree. Pouring water to remove the dust is a much better option than dusting it since flushing dust away does not give it a chance to scratch the paint.

How to remove paint and clear coat over spray and restore the body's original shine?

                  Hey guys!
I own the R15 Version 2.0 50th Anniversary Limited Edition pearl white.
I have always maintained it like a new born baby- Be it its engine or its body. But,I had a crash last month, leaving huge scars on the front cowl right at the edge near the headlight.I took it to a painter to get it coated, but,he made a blunder out of it.He over sprayed paint and clear coat on some body parts.
Does any one know how to remove spray paint over sprays on the bikes's tank and plastic fairing's factory clear coat? The over sprayed part has been on the dust and minute sand particles settled on the body and got dry, leaving a rough and coarse feel when I wipe my hand on it.
The body must not be damaged and the excess over spray must be removed till we reach the factory's clear coat shiny finish with out ripping off the clear coat or damaging the paint inside.
And restore the Black plastic parts (housing) which surround the handle bar and holds digital console,to its original black factory shine? It had over painted paint sprinkles, and the idiotic painter spread PU Thinner on it,smudging the sprinkles around and making the part look whitish. He even spread the thinner on the digital console and the front wind shield, leaving a milky hazy effect.

Now,how do i protect them from getting faded with time as they already lost their original shine just a little bit. ?

Yesterday evening,I also noticed the white sprinkles on the suspension and the hard to reach red mudguard beside it.I took mu bike to him,He again took the thinner and applied it on the suspension, which did clean the sprinkles off,but he also did the same over the mudguard. He also applied 3M soft rubbing compound paste on the area, leaving a dark, tinted shade along with tiny bubbles over it.
He the took the rubbing compound, applied it on the fairing and tank, and rubbed it with Harshly .HE again used the thinner. It did clear out the excessive clear coat overspray on the tank and a bit of dust on the fairing. He then applied 3M liquid polish all over the body and wiped it.
Later today morning,I noticed that the tank and the fairing too has tiny tiny bubbles all over them, leaving an uneven feel when i spread my hand over it.

If any one here knows any safe and effective techniques to get the originality back without compromising the safety of the factory shine and paint underneath, please revert as soon as possible.
Hoping i would get some help.
                  Thank you.

No problem with teflon coating. But its a little expensive. Costs around Rs 400-600. It lasts for around 6months or an year. Coatings may be able to provide little protection against minor scratches but they are useless against hard ones. Anti-scratch pads are available (like the ones on pulsars) , which can protect the tank from scratches by trouser zippers etc.
Do not water-wash ur bike too often because that may lead to the paint fading. Make a habit of wiping ur bike as and when it gets little dirty. Dont let it get too dirty. Use the type of cloth used to wipe spectacles to brush fine dust. Metal parts rust when a small portion of the the part is covered in mud or if the paint is scraped off in a small area of the part(like in nuts and bolts). So clean your bike after its ridden in rain beacause when you ride in rain, mud gets splashed and gets stuck there. The bike's more vulnerable to rusting if its in a coastal area. Apply a plastic coating(like the ones u put on mobile phone screens) on the portion of the tank covered by the seat because that is the region most likely to get rusted when water seeps through the gap between tank and the seat.
Always park ur bike in shade and avoid parking under the sun.
While cleaning gently pour chlorine-free cold water(without force) on the surface. Most of the dirt will be washed away. Then u can wipe the surface with a cloth while pouring water. In this way no scratches are created, no detergent/shampoo will be required. after washing let the water dry and then apply polish. Try Waxpol for polishing. The shine u get is amazing.

Stop going to that 'painter'. you should've taken ur bike straight to the ASC. Can u post pics of those parts mentioned above so that a clear idea about the degree of damage done by the 'painter' can be obtained?
