  • how to align balancer shaft of pulsar 150 classic to get rid of vibrations

ok guys ...i really need your help....i am a 20 year old, have been into cars since i was a little kid, when i turned 19 i bought this old beat up pulsar 150 classic from my pocket money , because i wanted to find out what the fuss is all about....why are people so mad abt biking....predictably i loved it...though cars still remain my first love

a lil bit abt the situation: at 20 i decided that i didnt deserve to be called a petrol head if i hadnt opened an engine and put it back together...and whats a better starting point than a VERY SIMPLE, tiny little 150 cc , 4 stroke engine...the one bolted to my bike....it had tooo much vibrations anyways so it could do with some fixing. so i opened it up

now i have a good amount of knowledge about engines , having grown up helping my dad fix his car ...which is clearly a more complex machine, and observing mechanics while they worked on my car.... but the balancer shaft is a component i wasnt familiar with...since my car doesnt have it..

the problem: ive done a fair bit of reading on balancer sshafts and the logic behind them....but i still dont know how to install it perfectly aligned with the crank....cuz if it isnt aligned ...it will only increase the vibrations instead of reducing them...there are dots on the gears(one on each gear involved) which r supposed to help in exactly this but i still m not sure how to go abt it .....if needed i can post a few pics of the parts involved...just let me noe if its needed...

    help will be greatly appreciated

    thanx in advance

I guess you know where it is situated. You will see that it is spring loaded. When this is aligned with the crankshaft, it needs to be loaded by the spring. So, we need to turn the balancer a certain amount and push it and lock it with the crank. So, a certain pressure is always felt by the crank.

Now, regarding the amount by which the balancer is to be loaded, first turn the balacer till the spring just starts being loaded. Now, load by a distance of rotation of 2 teeth. In this position, fit it in the bike.

This info is from the service manual.

      BTW, welcome to xBhp!

thanx a lot man..now that i hav a bike , i thought i had to be on xbhp...its like this ...if ur into cars u hav to be on TEAM-BHP and if u r into bikes u hav to be on XBHP.

okay, u rote "When this is aligned with the crankshaft, it needs to be loaded by the spring" i was always unsure wat the function of the spring loaded gear was, now i noe. but the sentence says -when it is aligned withe the crank- this is the info i need exactly: ie: the position of the balancer with respect to the position of the crank.

but do u hav the workshop manual (that too the one for the classic)....i hav been looking for it everywhere over the net...couldnt find any thing useful. plz tell me its a pdf file. and if its a hard copy ,can u plz scan it somehow and mail it to me??its okay if it takes time, i can wait for it but the kind of help i can get from it in assembling the bike is the kind of help i need.....

The balancer shaft needs to be loaded by 2 teeth and fixed. I guess it has no position wrt to crank, else surely a T mark will be there. I do not remember now.

And the info is from P180UGIII manual. Its same for all Pulsars. Its here.

Yes, there is a "T" mark.

yeah there is a mark ...not a t though. its a dot in one tooth of all the gears involved. u c the crank runs the clutch drum which runs this spring loaded gear which as u sed earlier needs to be loaded while installing and this gear finally runs the balancer shaft. all the gears involved hav the dot except the clutch drum. i m downloading the manuals uploaded by abhijeet. lets c if there is any info in those abt this

So I guess, it does not vibrate now in the lower rpm ranges?
