  • [Help]: Problems on a 900km run Enfield..

    Hi guys..
i bought a new Std 350 this August.
loving each & every moment of it.
the bike has cmpleted its first service.
i ride the bike everyday to work arnd 18kms round trip
and an occasional 40km round trip
i ride between 40kmph to 60kmph not exceeding that..
there are a few problems that i am facing after my last rounnd trip of arnd 42kms.
    1) The bike is starting to pull to the left wen i hold the handle lightly or let go of it

    2) Transition from 1st to 2nd , 2nd to 3rd gears is smoooth but from 3rd to 4th i have to rev the bike hard then shift if i shift it by reving it less then engine knocks a bit then i have to pull the thrtlle a bit harder.

    3) the left front shock is scrapping after the frnt mudguard.

    4) after riding for 2 -3 kms i have to rev a lot to switch from 3rd to 4th.

are these problems normal during the runnning in of the bike or are these symptoms a warning for something nasty thats awaitin to hapn..

Congrats on the new bike Well my answers in order:

[1] Try and get your front shocks and also if possible the bearings checked. Also see if the wheels is aligned proper and get it wheel through did you band your bike somewhere?

[2] I think the problem is with your clutch plates. Get them checked and this will resolve the problem.

      [3] Same as [1]

      [4] Same as [2]

you have to rev higher in third to shift to 4th gear, is because the engine is still bedding in.

Please do not follow the company recommendations on running in a RE. thats what i have seen. you need to be careful with the bike for 3,000 or more kms to run it in. Some people will say the other way, but this is what ive learnt, and seen people do to get the most.

i am suspecting a wheel alignment, or front brake alignment issue.

        - Does the front brake grab?

        - Can you rotate front wheel freely, when its off the ground

        - Is the handlebar crown tightened properly? if not get that tightened and then check.

        - Check if there is adequate clearance on both sides of the front tyre and the front mud guard, that will give you an indication of the alignment of the wheel.

I have not banged the bike anywhere. i will ask the mechanic to chk on wat u have mentioned.

          @ jd666
Since the engine is bedding in its normal to rev a bit harder while changing frm 3rd to 4th?
when u say u grab u mean it does not come backk to its disengaged position when its released.
then yes, it does that but not completely but the brake does disengage.
Front wheel rotates freely when above the ground but there is some resistance in the rear wheel (this is solely my observation have not checked it with the mechanic)

          thnks for ur suggestions .
          i'll post updates tomorrow
