  • rt side cornering problem

I have a pulsar 180 cc ug3.... and for a couple of months now have been having a problem with the balance of the bike... have tried almost everything but still facing this problem.... initially the bike was very difficult to drive... it would wobble and even small adjustments to go right were tough and turn right would have to be done at almost a snails pace without feelings of sudden fall... now I know that its not my turning technique as turn to the left is easy to do and no such problem.... these are the things I have already done:
    1st service:
    swing arm bush changed
front rim changed( didnt need to... but dumb bajaj guy fooled me)

    second service:
    cone set replaced
    fork assembly re aligned
    * after this service the bike became good for a few days and then again slowly went back to being the same
and after this I had an accident and fell on the rt side of the bike

    service 3:
after exhausting everything the bike zone guy said to change my rear tire as it was getting worn unevenly from ( mrf zapper c).... I changed to ceat vertigo... ]

changing the tire worsened the problem... felt vibration in the handlebars

    service 4:
fork assembly overhauled ( mechanic said there was a bend but I didnt see it)
    handle bend removed
    cone set changed
    fork oil replaced

after service 4 the bike has improved almost 80 percent but still when i have to go around circles to the right or if there is a long curve to the right I cant lean and bike seems to get locked into a left ward course... I have to slow down all the way and then start again... recently saw that while turning to the right I can go upto 25 kph comfortably but beyond that its like I'm gonna fall... any ideas?

The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

How about changing the front/rear wheel bearings? They can cause wobbling.

yeah I just took it to the mechanic again... asked him to check out the rear sprocket bearing and to see if the front disk had any bend in it.... asked the guy to check the alignment for the inner tube of the shocks... then he tried testing the shocks and said they needed replacing... dunno bout that but i gave the go ahead... he asked for a 1000 rupees to go buy the shocks... dunno if thas how much it costs for new gas shocks... but yeah... umm also asked him to check the wheel balancing... he said that since its an alloy wheel its not done...

ummm.... regarding being pulled to the rt... actually its the direct opposite... I feel like the bike pulls to the left when I'm going on a long right curve... like a big circle or just a curve in general... Like im leaning and trying to make the bike go right... but its going very wide... feels really scary so I have to slow down sometimes to a halt and then start going again... If i lean more i feel like im gonna just fall... but no pull to the right as such...

Hey you mentioned "handle bend removed" during your fourth service. Tell me this, did your bike have a fall prior to this problem's first occurrence?

A lot of mechanics say, no matter how well you remove the handle bend, it is never a 100% repair. A good way to judge if a handle is bent or not is to look at it from the opposite direction, i.e. stand facing the headlamp of your bike with the front wheel between your feet and look at the handle's curves... both, left and right should look completely symmetrical.

How about replacing your handle with another for a test (any handle would do, just make sure it was never bent... ask you mechanic --the one who's charging you so much for everything-- to get a handle off one of the bikes in his garage and fit it onto yours for a test ride. See if that seems to solve your problem OR change the way your bike behaves.

A couple of more questions -not to belittle you or your riding skills-
Are you able to corner well on the left side with this bike? How about your right-left cornering on some other bike?

              haha

yeah man... the handle seems normal... doesn't look bent to me... but if all else fails then i guess ill get that changed too....

regarding previous accidents.... The bike has had a few accidents... I bought it second hand and it had evidence of a fall on the right side then too.... and afterwards I also had a few accidents... nothing major but still i have fallen ... mostly to the right side....

Regarding riding skill... haha no offense taken man... I'm an ok rider... but the reason I know that its not just me that is having trouble is that I CAN corner a whole lot better and faster when its a left turn... and I remember how my previous bajaj discover handeled and I remember the ride quality was soooo much better... I used to corner that either way with out any probs....also I had a friend who has been riding for like 10 years take a ride and even he reported the same right turn problem... so I guess its the bike....

Pulsars, and all bikes with the front disk in the right hand side, always falls towards the right when the front wheel locks.

What logic did you apply behind this conclusion?

It has got something to do with the bite of the disk brake being applied only of the right ride. This causes a uneven distribution of braking force. It is what I have observed. If the bike is straight and you manage to lock the wheel, it will fall to the right.

                      alright

ok so I'll report back after getting the shocks changed and also the wheel bearings checked and if needed changed... also will c about the handle... in the mean time any more ideas of things to check?

It doesn't work like this, actually. If you are experiencing this in your bike then either there's some alignment problem or a rider fault. The front disc set up at either right or left side of the tyre is hardly an issue in this situation, it's just in manufacturer's prerogative whether they want to put the disc at right or left side of front tyre. However, if the disc is slightly bent which is not noticeable to the naked eye, then there might be stability problems under braking, but even then it doesn't guarantee that the bike will fall on the right side only!!! that could only be a mere coincidence!

Its not a stability problem as such. When you skid for some time under hard braking, you are bound to fall. Here, I have observed that the fall is mostly to the right. And this thing is not only in my bike. Anyways, will try to find some info from the net.

Have you changed the FRONT tyre?? If not. how old is it. The front tyre makes the BIGGEST difference in handling.

                              front tire

front tyre is stock tyre... hasn't been changed at all... bike has done 16,500 km.... tread on the tyre is still good... no cracks or anything on the tyre...
