  • Weird problem in my pulsar

    Hello everyone,
I have a Pulsar 150 DTSi 2004 model and it has a very weird problem.

I drive the bike for say 30 mins to 1 hour. Then I park the bike for say 15 mins to 1 hour. Now when I again start the bike and drive for about 5 mins, suddenly the engine stops responding and there the output decreases(just like when the fuel is over and the bike goes on reserve) and the bike stops.
Now the weird part, I open the fuel tank lid and shake the bike few times and close the lid. Now again the bike starts and functions properly throughout the ride.

Whats the problem here ? Is it with the Air filter. I guess there is some vacuum getting created in the fuel tank.

My friend has Pulsar 150 DTSi (alloy wheels model) and he too faces the same problem.

The problem is when the bike is parked under direct sunlight.

    Please advice.

    Thanks,
    Subu.

    Strange problem Approved
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Its a vacuum lock. The fuel cap on the tank should allow the tank to breathe. When, certain holes get jammed up, this problem occurs. I do not remember exactly where on the fuel cap, these holes were located.

there was this same problem with mine too a long time ago... what i did was hold the choke for a longer duration and tried starting the bike... also opened the overflow screw in the carb until petrol started coming out of it... later i got my jet changed and the problem got solved...

try revving the bike hard once the engine fires.. there might be particles which might block the jet too...

a float is the plastic container kind off thing which comes inside the carb...

+1 it's a Airlock, quiet common in Pulsars.. even occurred in my friends 220DTSfi.

Get the breather holes cleaned. This problem should be more evident when kept under direct sunlight.

+1 to that from me too.yes its air lock.i suffered the same prob 1 yr back on my pulsy 180 v2.now what u have to do open the alloy fuel filler cap.there are some hex shaped bolts which can be opened by allen keys .now after opening you can see the drains on the base of the fuel filler cap on the tank.its better you drain the patrol, dismount the tank and wash it properly by wash jet ,dry it properly and put it back.

                Thanks !

                Hello everyone,
Thanks a lot for the answers. I too thought it was Airlock but was not sure. Besides did not know the solution to the same.
Thanks a lot. Will talk to the mechanic and get it solved.

Airlock, my Pulsar suffers from it too, so it happens on a regular basis for me too.
                  1. Avoid keeping in the sun, park in the shade.
                  2. Get the fuel tank cap cleaned, so whatever orifice/breather hole is blocked opens up.

Vacuum in the tank. Fuel cap not breathing.( holes choked). This will happen mostly when the tank is near empty.

If you have a fuel Tank Cap key lock, breathing could be through this path. Older caps with out key lock have a small hole on the top of the cap.
