  • Planning for a 500+ ride the day i get my new P220

    Hi guys,

I really need your help on this. Right now i am in bangalore and i have booked my Pulsar 220 DTSi in my hometown(kerala). I booked the bike there for several reasons. We will talk about that later. But the problem is, how to get my bike here to bangalore. I definitely dont want to bring my bike in bus ( volvos or whatever it be) and the second option that i have ruled out is bringing it in the train). So the only option left is to ride it from there till here. But the issue is whether it affect the bike as soon as i ride for long distance(comes upto 500kms) before run-in period. Or should i run the bike for say 1000 kms in the local area in my hometown in a months time and then ride it to bangalore?

Also another issue is regarding registration. Should i register my bike with KL registration and bring it here or should i bring the bike with temp registration and go to the RTO office and register it in bangalore. I saw somewhere that nowadays bangalore RTO is not charging any tax for registering new bikes that have been bought from other states. Is that true?

    Please do reply guys.

      Don't know about registration.

Was I you. I would ride it. Start early in the morning (4-5), reach destination by evening with break on the way. Would be a nice opportunity to break-in as well.

      consider this:
      8 1/2 hours journey @ 60 kmph will take you approx. 500kms.
with stops and breaks on the way, make that 12-15 hrs.
This (a single day) seems more attractive than 1 month to get your bike to bangalore .

I second that. Doing break-in on highway is much better than in stupid traffic. Just make sure that you don't cross 60 and give as many breaks as you can. Plan yourself well.

You can do it, but don't cross 4K RPM-I guess that would be around 60kmph.
Also keep varying the engine speed&take breaks of atleast 10 minutes every 100kms.
If you can bear with all these, get the bike&the 1st Service done the very next day!

it sure is gonna be damn boring, but yeah, like everyone else did, you can break your bike in on the highway. But keep varying speeds and do not exceed limits. Breaks every 50-75 kms for 5 minutes would be recommended. When you stop, just dont cut off the engine, let it idle for a few seconds, come to normal, let the oil flow, and then shut down. Similar for starting, so that the oil is in circulation when you start or stop riding. Rest you should not face any problems.

dont forget to post pics of the ride when you are done!!!

                As everybody already said.

                (1) Ride bike below 5K RPM, its a 220Dtsi taller gearing so no problem. You would be doing 72+, good enough for cruising.

                (2) Do Vary your engine speed.

                (3) Take a good Pre Delivery Check, especially Oil, brakes etc, tyre pressure (slightly on higher side would be good).

BTW which route are you planning to take?

First of all, thank you everybody for the replies. I am planning to take palakkad-salem-hosur-bangalore route. Another thing that came into my mind now is whether there will be any problem at the check post if there is no registration for the vehicle???BTW i will have one of my friend accompanying me. I don't think i can ride alone for such a long distance, i have never done that so not taking any chance!

It won't be a problem. Just carry all the documents(T/R certificate, bills, insurance, license, pollution free sticker) with you.

Don't take North South Corridor and then GQ via Krishnagiri, which is wide and 4 lane, as High Speed is not what are you looking at, take the old highway, which is shorter, more intresting and will help you properly run-in your bike as there will lot of reaseons to brake, and slow down.

There are no check posts! Nobody will ask you anything. You will be getting your proof of your insurance cover and sale, carry that else there will not be any problem, espcially on highway.

Start very early, you do'nt want to your engine to heat up..right? Secondly carrying a pillion will be more strain, but should be not be a problem.
