  • [Help]: Lay period for a bike

    Hi friends...

    I own a HHH (april, 2009).

I am now away from home for atleast 4 months and nobody would be riding or maintaining the bike back home.

What precautions or measures should i take before riding the bike again or things to take care during the lay period??

You mean HHH refers to Hero Honda Hunk - i think im right

Ok 4 months is not a bigger time - you can leave the bike without Fuel and leave it in a Closed Shed
But if your Still consider to do any precautions you can follow these following tips

1 - Empty Fuel completely from the Tank
2 - Remove the battery and place it inside a Sealed Container
3 - Place the bike in center stand and make it sure that the Tyres doesnt touch the Ground on any case
4 - Close the bike with an Water Proof but Ventilated Cover
5 - Make sure the place where you park your Bike is free from direct Sunlight and Rain but Ventilated

Thats it - but if your hate to do these things - you can make your parents or any other friends in your home to atleast startyour bike and keep for Few minutes atleast once in a week........

        Why sealed container??

I don't think battery will last those 4 months unless you charge it once a month or so or keep it on a trickle charger.

Also, better not start the bike without the battery connected.

deflate the tyres, and put tube powder on em, will help keep em soft for the period you are away.

And remember to give the bike a service when you come back and start it again. Change oil, filter etc.

Instead of leaving the bike like that, You can give the bike to a friend of yours and tell him to ride it atleast once in a week.

+1, Don't cover bike with cover it will attract rats, insects, etc etc due to darkness and prolonged non-usage. If you use cover due to lack of covered parking then you ask someone to spray cockroach/mosquito liquid every fortnight (inside the cover).

when you come back......read owner's manual check list before riding....
visual inspect thoroughly, look out for wires/tubes if they are ok...don't use electric start button when you start for the first time after lay-off........fill petrol and leave the bike for 10 mins...... crank with ignition key in off position press clutch lever several times and then finally kickstart the bike with choke assistance (if it's cold),

wish you happy journey !! (where are you going ? onsite assignment?) ?
