  • Met with an accident: what could be the issue

Hello all..I met with an accident today early morning. Thank god i am perfectly alright with some torn skin and bruises on my body. Helmet saved me from head injury. Moron auto driver suddenly made U turn. I own a pulsar 180 UG3 with moderate speed @ 45 kmph. when i saw he is about to turn i just cut to the right side of the road with slight braking then i regain to the left (like inverted C). By that time i passed the auto still in half brake but suddenly the handle bar wobbles vigorously to the left and right ultimately i flipped to the right dragging with the bike for almost 20 meters. I cant blame the auto driver and i passed him but it was similar like watching GP where the bike shakes over the curves.
I have not used rear brakes. I have changed the front cone set 2.5K before. Rubber is 28K old . I have the steering wobble from 50 to 60 kmph. Just now i checked swing arm bushes has minor play.
What could be this issue? please help me to sort out this could be fatal.

    Cheers,
    Vijay

More experienced bikers will answer as to why your bike behaved the way it did. But, safety first... wear protective clothing to avoid being bruised in the future. Accidents dont ask before happening, no matter whose mistake it is!
Life is like riding a bike. It is impossible to maintain your balance while standing still.

I was wearing jacket, shoes and helmet thats why i can able to walk away from that incident and able to reach home back.
I want to know why the flutter had occured. Checked the front wheel yesterday by removing. There is some play between the axle rod and the bearing. There is no lateral once fixed to the front.

Guess what, I've been through a similar experience on my P180UG3 as well, and NO i am not referring to a meeting with the 'moron' auto-wala.

In my personal opinion the bike wobbled at the front because of a) a direct and SUDDEN application of the front brake harder than the rear one, which cause all of the bike's kinetic energy due to its motion to be focused on the front, which, in turn is b) started trying to coming to a stop, while c) the rear was still 'pushing' the bike forward (-did you reduce acceleration while braking?-). d) You were trying to cut across to the right, your line of motion suddenly changed and since you and the bike weren't 'perfectly behind' the front wheel (if you know what I mean), there was no chance of a 'stoppie'-like stop with the front wheel coming to rest, and the rear one in the air. e) And because you weren't in a perfectly straight line when you braked, the motion towards the right, also had an opposite reaction towards the left (remember Newton's laws?), causing the front to move to left, calling for another opposite reaction to the right and thereforth. f) And since you were caught unawares by this, you couldn't control the bike and ended up with a fall.

To cut a long story short, do not brake suddenly using the complete potential of the FRONT brake at once; instead, use a 'stop-n-go-n-stop-n-go...' technique to gradually increase the braking at the front, while decreasing acceleration and keeping the rear brake pressed.

Agreed, its easier said than done, but then again, when you're riding a bike, you HAVE to think and act on the fly.

can the road be the reason?

I mean a bumpier road or something similar can also cause the wobble

If your bike has wobbling issues, that is the obvious cause. Also have you jacked up the rear suspension height?
Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!

the incident happened to you is called *Tank slapper*,or *Tank kisser* what ever u call it.All bikes specially street fighter models like our pulsars or tvs apache are known this kind of phenomena mainly because its chassis construction,a little higher center of gravity ,rack angle of front shockers are less, wheel base is shorter, also there is no stearring damper.

i am not sayin these bikes are not well made and i am a proud owner of pulsy 180 ug2 for past 5 yrs,its just that in a sub 60k bracket companys are tryin to do everything to improve the product and i kudos to them for the quality of products they r making like pulsys and rtrs.
they r tryin everythin ,strechin wheelbase, changing rack angles, use of better suspension setups.

in your case though its more likely the condition of bike can be the culprit.
Dont blame the auto driver as this is a rule in india if u dont hit noone and try your levelbest to avoid a collision ,some body will hit u.
when i ride or drive i am constantly in fear that every singe one in front or side or even back of me can suddenly cut my path!!!!

get your bike fixed from a reputed mech and ride with full confidence.
                check the following------
                1-front wheel bearing
2-alloy for bends or out of shape
3-front shock absobers for equal play and equal amount of shock absorption fluid.
                4-t joint
                5-ball racer
6-rear suspension center bush for its play.
                7-allignment of the bike
8-tyre tread depth(use a one rupee coin) and air pressure.

lastly i also met a similar kind of accident 4byrs back on my then brand new pulsy while coming from Gangok to siliguri on hills,
.on a turn the bike suddenly lost its control and i panicked and hit the brakes and front disk jammed for 3 sec or so at a speed of 55-60kph.same incident happened and i was dammn lucky that i didnt fall of the cliff of the mountain .THANK GOD>...
