well, its bit of my story too..

ive get on with my biking in early 20's.

i used to rent bike for 150rs/day. mostly it was pulsar180/150.. i use to take it out in campus lane which would be free of regular traffic.
a friend of mine taught me the gears, clutch and all.

i use to fear i'd mis-time the gears & halt the bike in middle of roads, yea feeling of embarrassment adding to it..

after two days of rigours training.. i couldn't even dared to ride on traffic roads..
but my friend insisted/ rather forced me to ride in traffic.. then and there. the fear which was flickering in my head! flew away..

    & i was biker, then n there.

^yes, its all in the head.. but u need gud enough practice, in controlling the throttle/gears/braking.. thats it!

    ride with a helmet mate..
& as there say "dar kay aaga jeth hai"

In 2008, such a class "Safety Riding for Adults" is conducted along with Delhi AutoExpo (just checked their site) by HMSI.
In Jan 2010, Delhi Auto Expo is going to happen. Please check with them.

Do what the others tell you - it is all in the head. There is no age to learn to ride. Yes, we could have learned biking when we were younger and had lots of time to spend freely (after bunking lectures ) but hey, better late than never, right?

Part of this reluctance is due to the "I should have done this sooner" feeling. You think "these kids have learned biking, I should have done it at their age too". Forget that. Swing your leg over a bike and you forget your age.

Another thing is "what if I fall"? At least I am embarrased by it - a 18 year old falling off a bike is OK (I guess), but for a 25 year old, isn't it embarrassing? We are supposed to be more "dignified". Again, its all in the head.

So relax. Shed all your fears and inhibitions. I know that is what is holding me back - I need to practise what I just said.
        He said it all..
Theres no age Bar for learning to ride!
The more you see others, the more others will notice you!
So why look at em', just ride like theres no one watching you., stay concentrated on what you're doing!
        Thats the key point..

            cheer up maan

            hey bro,

u need to make up ur mind, whether u wanna ride a bike or a bi-cycle.
it really doesnt matters from whom are u learning, jus remove the mental block from ur mind and keep goin.....
jus hv the courage to take the bike alone, so u hv more confidence.
u wont learn until u commit mistakes.
and since u know the basics it shouldnt be that hard.
its jus the inner desire and craze, which u are lacking as the age factor has taken a grip over ur mind.
get over it and start riding........

age is never a bar for riders!!!!!!!
Ride Hard !!! Ride Safe!!! Enjoy every moment on your machine !!! Cheers....

hey bro, why dont you get in touch with any of the xBHPians in your area. Where you from. Am sure, any one will be more than happy to help you out, me too in case if you from Mumbai.!
Dont worry about the age dude, I am 28 & you are making me feel old
dont be scared, you not jumping from a cliff with a parachute or a bungee jump.. just stay relaxed. One important thing is not to have lot of thoughts in mind while starting or riding a bike, this makes your brain more complex. Bike is to feel free, so free your mind & ride it. Ride it long & safe..!
Never learn/ride without a helmet. All the best buddy, keep us updated about your progress & we will be glad to know updates.

@Parth, liked the bike being worth for your moms satisfactory smile, its 'Priceless'. You earned it..!!

Congrats dude. A friend also bought a passion pro and yes he is 26, and still learning. This is what he did, he went to a driving school (yes they also have bikes) paid a 1000 bucks or so and learnt to ride (we had taught him the basics). He is one of the better riders in the group now.
One advice, and I am repeating what others say - dont ever think about what will people think. For them you are just another person, they dont make a difference in your life......

Practice early in the morning so that there will be less traffic and less people will notice you.

I learnt at 22. I used to take it out at 1 am, so that there would be no traffic.

happy that u removed the mental block & learnt riding.don't use rear brakes only fully,so that it will lock the rear wheel.use both brakes.if u think i am advicing too much, sorry for that.practice in empty roads ,as others favourably early mornings.i understood all your feelings etc.in learning now(age 26).but at age 26,uncle feeling OMG.you are youth.feel young.

Great thread (at least for me). I am 37 and just learning to ride a geared vehicle Have ridden only Scooty Pep till now and taking my baby steps in learning to ride my new SS 125. Shifting gears and knowing which gear I'm on currently are the issues am facing. Any tips for new learners like me?

Re: Desire to learn to ride...

I overhauled an engine before I learned how to ride. This may sound weird but I'm considered as a good mechanic but I still don't know how to ride good, don't get the wrong impression, I know how to ride but I'm not proficient at it yet as I don't have a bike of my own currently. Had a RX135 earlier and I could zip zap it but I'm not that good with a 5 or 6 speed gearbox. I am planning to buy a bike one day and then practice really good so I can become a intelligent and matured rider.

If any of you have a bike for sale at cheap, please inform me via PM.
                              I am back!

Don't Worry wanderingsoul, You dont need to know which gear you are in. You just need to be in a gear that feels right If you feel that bike is jerking a lot when you give accelerator then up shift and if you feel bike is not that responsive then shift down
