Pulsar 220 5th gear Query

    Pulsar 220 5th gear Query

    !!!5th Gear aint Performing!!!!

    Hey Guyz,

    Yesterday i thought of Going on a Speedy ride on Palm Beach Road......

    The Bike Performed good on the 3rd gear, reaching speeds 95km/ph+, also the 4th gear went up Boosting the Bike 120-123Km/ph+ (All this with a Pillion)

    But after this when i Switched to the 5th Gear, the Bike Din't Go ne further than 8k rpm...... Causing the Bike to run at a Constant speed of 121km/ph.......

    Very weird

    I had opened up Full throttle..... N Bike was Just Stuck on this Speed..... Was on the fifth gear for almost 40seconds.........

    Tried the same thrice, n got the same results........

    Bike has clocked 1400km+, i dare not open full throttle, b4 it's first service (Coz the bike zoomed past 125km/ph+ within seconds)

    But after the Service done, it was the first time i tried exceeding 120 mark.......

    The tyre pressure was fine, n engine well warmed Up...

    What seems to b the Problem Guyz????

      If your bike is DTS-i, then get the AFR checked and tuned.

        The Pulsar 220dtsi runs on tall gear ratios,
        the first and the second are medium, but after that the gears carry long,
        the disadvantages of a pillion on the performance of a bike is quite imminent! Try doing solo speed runs to check whether this problem is down because of the pillion!
        Frankly i have never heard of this problem with any of the 220s before!
        my advice would be to ditch the pillion, and if that does'nt work, get the bike checked a authorised Pro-Biking showroom!

        I gun the throttle, the motorbike wails, the forks heave up, the revs climb, my view blurs, air gushes in my lid, muscles tighten, street lights streak. Just another day at work...

          It's very difficult to redline 220 Dts-i even solo, forget pillion. Secondly you could be running too rich. Check your AFR.

              Y only AFR ,

              It could be the wind , It can be the RPM at which he shifted , Can be low air pressure

              So many things , You just cant point out to AFR for everything.
              It could be the weather.

                afr= air to fuel ratio

                it is the amount of air mixed with fuel when the fuel enters the combustion chamber(cylinder)

                  ^^ I have the same issue with my 8 month old 200... it goes well upto 112 in the 4th gear, however on the 5th gear it refuses to budge above 117/118... and thats hardly at 9K rpm...

                    Its normal...5th is an overdrive, its supposed to be that way.

                    If someone tell's you that your stock bike will redline in 5th gear...forget it, wont happen

                      i kind of knew what is air to fuel mix is but couldn't understand through the acronym used.
