      hey sunny,
      teflon=polish
      lacquer=coating
      therefore lacquer is any day better than teflon beacuse its a coat over your bike's painted surface.
      lacquer alsts for 2-3 years.
      teflon lasts for 6 months.
      but be aware you might get your bike,with a wax polish in name of teflon.

          I beg to differ. Please see this old post of mine.

          Anything you add over the paint is a coating. AFAIK, lacquer is also know as clear coat. If the lacquer that is referred to here is the same as clear coat, then it must be applied by spraying and baking, just like any paint since it is nothing but a colourless paint. If this is not done by a good painter then the finish will be bad.

          Regardless of the coating (lacquer or acrylic sealant, so called teflon coating), a final coating of wax, either liquid or paste, is beneficial since it provides additional gloss and water repellency.

            My take is jus clean ur bike once in 2weeks and wax(prefarably formula1 or turtle )polish every 2months
            that's enough to keep ur bike gleaming...

            if your bike is NEW, go for "paint protection" done by 3M.
            teflon coating is nothing but wax polish, nothing but a waste of money. U can do it yourself..

              If you use your bike daily and in heavy traffic and park in the open, then I recommend washing it every week. When washing, avoid doing it under the sun since it dries the water and soap very fast and this can leave ugly marks. If you notice any bird droppings, clean it immediately since it is corrosive! Even protective coatings are damaged by it!

              "Teflon" coating is not wax polish. Please see my previous post where I've linked to another of my posts on this topic. It's a long post so I didn't want to repost it here.

              Presuming the coating is done properly (bike thoroughly degreased and cleaned prior to application and using a good quality coating), the coating ("teflon" coating containing NO teflon!) will give good results.

              Maintained properly by regular washing and avoiding cleaning with dry cloth, the coating should last around 6 months or more depeding on usage and maintenance. It'll last even longer and shine more if a good wax polish is applied over it once every 6 - 8 weeks.

                OK, This teflon coating thing is a REAL pain in my ....... brain.

                Whenever ive seen a two wheeler "teflon coated" it just looks like it has been waxed. It takes just a few hours to do it. And like wax it fades away. After my last service the bike was waxed, and this other guy comes and asks me whether i just got it teflon coated!!!

                BUT i got my car teflon coated 3 years ago and it is STILL coated. The process took around 2 days. The car looks no different but on very close inspection you can notice it clearly over the paint. It keeps the paint from fading. It is transparent, its like a thin glass sheet over the entire car. Any light scratches are taken by this coat and the paint is left untouched. If scratched deep the coat has to be repaired quickly or else it will start flaking off from that part.

                Here is an easy way to understand. Imagine you had a steel plate, now you pour a little "fevi quick" or "quick fix" on it and dried it. That is what my teflon coat looks like, but its completely clear. Now imagine scratching off this "quick fix" from one end with your nail, thats what would happen if this coat got scratched.

                Only a really deep scratch will get to the paint.

                Sorry if i have been over dramatic in my explaination but I really dont know how, and why 2 wheeler owners are being ripped off like this about this teflon coat. And i've noticed this in many cities, Mumbai, Delhi, Trivandrum.

                  thanks friends for your suggestions.
                  I haven't got any final thoughts,as there are different views.
                  some are telling about turtle wax polish & 3M paint coating,i tried to find it around my place earlier but couldn't find any of it.
                  so i am going for coating,now one question rises in my mind that,will lacquer coating last longer??

                      Yeah!! i know teflon coating is not wax polish. But many bajaj and honda SVC jus do a wax polish and call it TEFLON coating and they charge some good bucks for which you can a new formula1 dabba, which can serve u for a year!!
                      i heard DU-pont guys do real teflon coating but thats very costly..

                      @SUNNY503
                      as some one said laquer coating is nothing but clear coat, already our bikes come with a clear coat.
                      going for another clear coat over the original one....I'm not sure it helps preserve the glare of the bike....ask experts....
                      turtle and formula1 are available in leading car accessories shops.But beware of duplicates..!!

                      some times I'm too lazy to wax my car so i get it done from SVC, they have machines...if ur like me, you can get ur bike waxed(or so called teflon coating) every 6 months.....

                        I would never recomend lacqer coating as I have tried that on my car.In initial 2-3 years its great but trouble comes when from some areas it starts peeling off.Due to this I had to repaint my hood and roof

                            Lacquer coat has to be sprayed onto the painted portions unlike teflon which is nothing but a longer lasting wax polish.
                            You are right when you say that bikes do come with lacquer or clear coat from the factory itself.
                            This tends to fade after a few years of use.
                            Like someone said above, if you are getting the bike's painted parts lacquer coated, it needs to be done well by preparing the surface by first rubbing, then 2 coats of lacquer spread evenly&sprayed thinly so as to avoid bubbling.
                            A good painter can give you a good finish but he will charge atleast 1000-1500 bucks for this.
                            Have a look at my bikes in my profile album-both are clear coated. Though I don't clean them much, they shine well when clean!
                            There is another thread on Lacquer coat too, please go through that as well.
