  • Paris Anyone?

    Hey all,

I will be moving to Paris for a year or so.. Wanted to know, how easy is to get a license there and how much does a decent enough pre-owned bike cost there?

    Any clues?

    Welcome to xBhp

Will you be moving as a resident? If you are not moving as a resident, you can still use the IDL for a year. But as a resident, you will have to pass the test. It is VERY VERY tough. In all likelihood you WILL fail it if you go for it without taking lessons. Most people try it after doing a minimum of 20 hours of practical classes. Then you have theory as well. Which you have to learn... the entire Code of the Motor Vehicles system over there. In the theory test, you have to get 95+/100 to qualify for the practicals. And so on...

As for prices of vehicles... Just to give you an example, right now I have in front of me a Suzuki 1000 Vstrom, 2005, with lots of accessories, 39400kms, for €5200; or a Suzuki Gladius, 2009, 650cc, first owner, 1100kms, €5500; or a Suzuki Bandit 1250 GSF S, 2007 first owner, 20200kms for €5990; or a Kawa 650 ER-6f, 2006, ABS, lots of accessories, 9200kms for €4100 and lots of other choices. Just giving you some examples.

Thanks Ken for the reply.. I am going on a WP of 1 year and will definitely take the residential permit as well to get a house on rent.. not sure if in that case will i be required to apply for a license?

Otherwise, I will try and get a IDL from here so that if I have a chance, I can get one bike there..

Just one more thing, how long does it take to re-sale a bike there? lets say if i wanna sell what i buy there after a year?

          Thanks

Try using the IDL. If that works, good enough. Where would you be staying?

About the re-sale of your bike, depends on a lot of factors, the condition, insurance, the price you are proposing and the weather. Bikes sell off faster May onwards till July. Then the sales drop. And finally it is also a case of luck. However there are lots of 2nd hand bike sale places where you can just drop your bike, collect the cash and leave depending on your negotiating skills.

about the IDL, my DL is made in Rajasthan. Would that be a problem to get an IDL from Bangalore?

For an IDL, normally what they ask is your passport and DL address to be the same. However you should verify with the local RTO ASAP. When do you leave?
