Older bikes cannot and should not use premuim or speed as additives contain ethylene and complex hydrocarbons which degrade the non metallic parts of the fuel system and do not help or affect the performance of the engine... the newer bikes, the ones after these fuels were introduced, I think it was in 2004? are much better suited for these fuels, it does keep the engine clean and carbon-free and increases the average slightly but not worth the extra bucks in my opinion... even if once u use normal unleaded, the benefits of using the premuim/speed are erased...
If u want the benefits then u have to use these fuels all the time and spend much more

I really feel a difference, shell fuel surely increases mileage by 20% in my bike ! But the performance is better of when I use Indian oil fuel ! I can easily touch 112 on the same road when I fill Indian oil, by filling in shell 105 is max. ! Moreover wheelies are really easy with Indian oil petrol where as I kind of struggle doing it on shell petrol ! I thought this was psychological but no, I tried i out and same with my group of friends !

Lets make it very clear here!!!

i own a yamaha FZ-s too... t we do have the Indian IOC petrol sheds here as well... when you say Xtra Premium i hope you mean ""octane 90 Premium" Because petrol is classified under the octane levels... you find octane 90, 95, 100 ,105... the digits indicate the level of octane in the fuel mixture.
TO make it clear... normal petrol is octane 90... and IOC's Xtra premium is also the same octane level (90) you'll have to watch carefully at the petrol sheds if its octane 90 (how you identify is the octane 90 and 90 premium pumps will be in the same row or the prices will be slightly higher compared to normal petrol)

Likewise you find the same case in octance 95 as well... u find the normal 95 and the extra premium 95 as well.. (the number is not indicated though in the extra premium, but u identify it by the label colour or the price compared to octane 95 which cost much more than 90).

the difference between 90 and 95 is that the 95 mixture is more richer in octane compared to the 90 and also like said in the above posts the compression ratios.... engines below 2500cc are fine with using octane 90 fuel.

*** dont confuse yourself thinking that normal petrol is octane 90 and extra premium is higher octane (95),..Wrong!!! extra premium if the price is slightly above the normal is octane 90 aswell...its just that EXTRA PREMIUM IS MUCH MORE CLEANER AND HAS FRICTION BUSTERS WHICH MAKE ENGINE MOVEMENT AND COMBUSTION SMOOTHER.... its not a Marketing gimmick... thats why they say premium..ITS CLEANER AND GOOD FOR THE ENGINE***

On my FZs i use the extra Premium (90) most of the time... and to be honest there is a difference the engine and performance is very smooth and there is less exhaust sound its much more quiet and the friction busters really work, also on the other hand when the Premium runs out i use the Normal petrol and i notice that the ride is a bit harsh, exhaust sounds louder and everything is just different... its just not smooth and also when you inhale the smell from the exhaust it smells stronger.

the other day for fun i used octane 95 ... and there was an even bigger difference i had the best mileage ever and pickup was just awesome at every traffic light by bike will just lift up when i take off from 1st gear... its because the octane is higher and thicker the fuel capacity used does more milage and performance is SUPERB!!!!

Conclusion: ---> from my experience... extra premium is very good if you keep using it... you wont know the difference unless u continuously use it for more than 2-3 refills.. and trust me those friction busters extend the life of your ride quality, maintenance and engine and the Premium petrol is just so much cleaner and it is NOT a marketing gimmick it does work if you keep using it.

Guys correct me if ive mentioned anything wrong above.
WHo says you need a woman to feel what a ride is like???... get a bike instead!!! ***Honda Hornet**

I normally use Speed. Twice I have used normal petrol because premium were not available. And I always put full or almost full tank. During these period, I have noticed my bike was running a little harsher than normal. I reasoned that this may be due to engine oil. After examining everything properly, without getting into details, I found out out that it was due to the fuel. I don't know about mileage as I rarely take note of it. There seems to be no noticeable difference in performance. However I feel a noticeable difference in engine smoothness, hence I use only BP speed. Most recently I filled Xtra Premium as the pump is closer. Seems to be as good as speed so maybe I may fill it again next refill.

Heard many comments that premium does not give any benefits and held that view even though I use premium for peace of mind. Well, after using both, I found there is noticeable difference in engine smoothness for my Zma and not only a matter of peace of mind.

To be carried out at the refinery end only, and the limit for this test is meant for products prior to addition of multifunctional additives, if used. However, the use of multifunctional additives does not exempt the manufacturer from meeting this requirement prior to addition of additives.
This test shall be carried out on the gasoline before addition of multifunctional detergent/ dispersant additives, as these may interfere with the test.
For the gasoline-alcohol blends, the dry vapour test method given in Annex A shall be followed.
From May to July in central India and northern plains in India.
In winter it is expected that temperature may be lower than 0OC in the northern hilly region and hence phase separation shall not take place till –10OC.
Use of multifunctional additive (MFA) is a requirement for assuring adequate fuel system and intake system cleanliness performance in engines. Refiners/ Marketers of motor gasoline have to ensure that MFA has proper credentials from internationally accepted test laboratories/ authorities, of having passed a minimum of one of the tests in each of the two categories of deposit control performance indicated below :

                  Indian Oil Corporation

Right to Information : Oil and Gas Service Companies

Automotive gasoline and gasoline-oxygenate blends are used in internal combustion spark-ignition engines. These spark ignition engine fuels are primarily used for passenger cars. They are also used in off-highway utility vans, farm machinery and in other spark ignition engines employed in a variety of service applications.

Gasoline is a complex mixture of relatively volatile hydrocarbons that vary widely in chemical & physical properties and are derived from fractional distillation of crude petroleum with a further treatment mainly in terms of improvement of its octane rating. The hundreds of individual hydrocarbons in gasoline range from c4 to c11.

An oxygenate is an oxygen-containing, ashless organic compound (such as an alcohol or ether) which can be used as a fuel or fuel supplement. Motor gasoline is sold at retail outlets where it is directly delivered into the automobile tank. The Indian Standard governing the properties of motor gasoline & gasoline-oxygenate blends is IS 2796 : 2000 (3rd Rev).

In view of the auto fuel policy issued by Govt of India, more & more stringent specifications (equivalent to Euro II, Euro III, Euro IV) are being made applicable for the gasolines being marketed in India. This has led to reduction of environmentally polluting factors in gasolines.

                  petrol with super cleanser

                  XTRAPREMIUM

XTRAPREMIUM petrol is a much sought-after fuel among discerning motorists who are in many ways emotionally attached to their wheels.

The “Clean and Keep Clean” function of the super cleanser additive in XTRAPREMIUM reduces deposits at the port fuel injector, intake valve and controls combustion chamber deposits to maintain "like new" performance of the vehicle. Regular use of XTRAPREMIUM gives the vehicle a superior pick-up, smoother drive, better mileage and lower emission. XTRAPREMIUM is designed not only to optimise performance of new generation vehicles but also rejuvenate old vehicles to perform better.

Little wonder, IndianOil’s XTRAPREMIUM petrol is the largest selling branded petrol in India

This has always been a bone of contention. But, there is always a marked increase in pickup and thrust when one changes from IOC/IBP to Shell Super Unleaded.

Not sure if its the additive effect or Octane number, but there is difference as noted by others. And its my guess that this is because of quality of fuel. Is there anything else that cause's this mythological effect

                      Bike Fuel

                      performance engines need more RON.
compression > 10:1 need more RON than normal gasoline engine..
                      pressure inside vs pressure outside.

normal fuel + engine at high place work normal.

closer at sea level will cause knocking.

several types of available additives for: fuel; cleaner - booster e.g, oxidizer, nitro x, vaporizer, octane booster, engine, lubrication, temperature, oil grade, dot# & synthetic type.

dirty 2stroke efficiency "2stroke fuel goes to exhaust" is less than clean 4stroke (4 valve,3 valve).

I use castrol MAX fuel booster (cleanser) & Bardahl injector klene for gasoline fuel,
Also used Bardahl engine oil additive wid HP motor oil, Motul motor oil.

A common misconception is that power output or fuel efficiency can be improved by burning fuel of higher octane than that specified by the engine manufacturer. The power output of an engine depends in part on the energy density of the fuel being burnt. Fuels of different octane ratings may have similar densities, but because switching to a higher octane fuel does not add more hydrocarbon content or oxygen, the engine cannot develop more power.

India: India's Ordinary And Premium Petrols are of 89–91 RON. The premium petrols are generally ordinary fuels with additives, that do not really change the octane value. Two variants, "Speed 93" and "Speed 97", were launched, with RON values of 93 and 97. India's economy-class vehicles usually have compression ratios under 10:1, thus enabling them to use lower-quality petrol without engine knocking.

Normal petrol plus additives like iftex/Bardahl is also a good option.

I use ordinary petrol and use Bardahl injector klene once after servicing is done.
Bardahl injector klene costs around 80 rupees and can be used for 5-7 liters of petrol.
Thus the cost of additives+petrol is same like premium petrols
