  • chain lube for p220??

Guys i've just purchased a new p220. The service manual says that the open chain needs to be lubed after every 500km and it recommends some grade as well. Is anyone here doing this for his/her p220??

And are there any particular brands of chain lubes available in the market?

How much does the TVS chain lube costs and how does it perform...?

        @Topic Starter

OKS is what is recommended by Bajaj. Costs Rs 220. You can also go for even better Motul one which costs close to Rs. 440

help is here and its cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if i am not wrong then bajaj recommends gear oil to lubricate its bikes chains.the grade is ep 90.
its a type of oil which is used in older generation gearboxes of cars which were 4 speed(not to be confused with bikes 5 speed transmission, its entirely different),now days 5 speed gearboxes of cars use a thinner version of gear oil ep 80 and ep 75 to be exact.also ep 140 is there which is much thicker used for differential of cars(mostly rear wheel driven ones).

as per the ep 90 which you need it costs 85 rs half liter from castrol.its well enough.

for best results clean the chain with diesel and dry it.then apply the chain lube.its easy, fast, good for the bike, and most importently cost effective.

i am using HP EP90 grade gear oil [rs. 80] for my 220si.
i clean the chain with kerosene and then lube it @ every 500kms. i am satisfied.

you can also use motul chain clean and motul chain lube if you dont want things messy

            OKS is also good.

I have one question here. This have already been discussed in P220 DTSFi & DTSi thread I guess, isn't it???

I am using OKS chain lube & OKS chain cleaner available @ Kirti Nagar PBK which is used for Ninja too. Correct me here if am wrong, Ninja owners

^^ nope you are not, OKS chain clean and OKS chain lube is what is used on the ninja's chain as well. around 240 for the clean, and 480 for the lube or so.

but why to invest so much?

can some one please enlighten me why most of the user in this thread is talking about expensive product like motul .i know its good as i used it for sometime ,but frankly ep 90 gear oil does the job as good.pardon me,but i dont see the point of using too much costly chain lubes where there is already a cheaper and equally effective method is available in the market.

@drvmtm SEA-90 almost provides the best solution for lubricating the chain. Ya true....its viscous, its cheap, its good...but still people suggest the expensive sprays. That is because the viscosity provided by SAE90 attracts dust too. Makes the lubrication somewhat less effective. Whereas you remain at peace with the chain if you use the sprays........ and thats why they are expesive + they are easy to handle and store)
