Which insurance policy(company,first or third party) previous owner had.Tell me than i can guide you what can be done.

For my case i transferred the insurance on my name first then,the RC book transfer.Also tell me,In which part of the country you are located.If Mumbai then i will give you the number of an agent which will do all your work,I mean the RC book transfer thing.

get ur rc book registered in ur name

Buddy,

even i purchased a second hand yamaha and followed the same.

First get the rc book registered under ur name and make sure u make the new card system(i forgot wht its calld) and after that u can go to the insurance company and show them ur rc book under ur name and they will change the name on the insurance policy to ur name at the same time.

BTW which year model is ur bike and whr do u stay??? for how much u got the yami???

I located at chennai and today I visit to RTO for Name transfer and as well FC. They sent me back for 2 times for address proof. Finally I got all the papers with me and went to RTO. Alas it was exactly 1:02 PM they closed the counter and replied the 10 AM - 1PM is the working hours.

I really got pissed of from this Government Org such as RTO just working for 3 hrs per day.

Let me try on tomorrow and what will be the answer i get..and I am trying my selt to get these things done and not to give single penny as a bribe to these ....... people..

In my experience, you must get the insurance transferred to your name within 7 days of the onwership transfer in the RC. After 7 days, you will be asked by the insurance company to get the vehicle inspected by their vehicle inspector and pay an inspection fee. So don't delay!

Before all that, make sure that RX has an valid RC if it is more than 15 years old FC is required.

I have done myself for FC and name transfer on Yesterday without paying a single penny. Thanks to the RTO chennai south(TN 07). I have submitted my papers and they asked me to collect after 7 days.

Total comes around Rs.865/-.. but the agent asked sum 2500. My kind advice that guys if you have proper documents you can do it urself instead of approaching the agents. Why I am telling this everywhere i could see only agents in RTO.

Finally I got my RC transfered to my name and smart card for registration of certification.

Its nice idea to carry the plastic cards instead of RC book. Also if the Insurance company provide cards then it would be very nice to avoid carrying the papers.

Little improvement on RTO offices nowadays it seems.

Good to hear this buddy, unfortunately I'm forced to approach this RTO in my locality which is rated #1 in TN. I leave that #1 to your imagination.

TN20 what??? Both Tiruvallur & Redhills falls into TN20 category.
There're 2 ways
1. Straight & Long path costing less
2. Short & Curved path costing more

1. Approach the RT office & there should be a "May I help" counter (I saw it during 2007 Sep); ask them the formalities, fill up the necessary forms(IIRC 29&30), stand in the queue, pay the required fee, wait for the RC book to collect after the name transfer & get the insurance.

2. Approach a reliable driving school, pay their service charge & wait for the RC book to collect after the name transfer & get the insurance.

hi all, i am from port blair, andamans and recently i purchased a rxz. the issue here is that the bike was owned by A, who moved out of station (got transferred) and sold the bike to B, who didnt get the bike's ownership transferred to his name though he has all the papers. now B has sold the bike to C (me) and the bike is still in A's name (whereabouts of A - UNKNOWN) !! i wanted to know if there is any provision to get the bike transferred to C, directly from A instead of going through the lengthy procedure of transferring it from A to B, and then B to C. the name transfer process takes about 25-30 days here and getting it done in two steps is a real pain

please let me know the actual procedure, and also if there are some alternatives.

Hi Atul,

There is not need to get the bike transferred to the Person B and then finally to you. To put it simply, If you can get hold of the Guy "A", all that is needed is a sale deed from him mentioning that the bike has been sold to you( make sure he knows that B sold it to you). Fill up the relevant forms and get them signed by Mr A submit at the RTO with the stipulated fee and you are done. Immaterial of whose name the bike is on, always have at-least a third party insurance for the bike.
