This procedure also varies from state to state... In Gujarat where I was in 2007-08, the policy is Rs 1000/- DD for 2 wheelers and Rs 2500/- DD for 4 wheelers. You give your preferred number - only the XXXX - the series of GJ-01-JH for example remains the same.

Same procedure here in TN dude. Actually Sriram, this is the more elaborated & this is how it was done for me too, to be precise, Jan 2005. However, the price might've gone up now for cars from 5000 (in 2005) to 8500 now. See the attached PIC which is the photocopy of the reciept from RTO (lazy to pull out the original from the cupboard) for obtaining the number 0900.

You can get this from SRKMS sticker shop, Wellington Plaza, Mount road. He takes one day to deliver. However, he will not fit that on vehicle nor the plates comes with ready to fit holes. You will need to take it to local mechanic to have this fixed.

Last but not the least, looks like HSRP looks seriously only in Goa & WB as of now.

Talking about reality....I have already visited Signs India atleast 4 months back and they are located walkable distance from my residence. They said we have been waiting for govt. to issue orders and that has been still discussed for a long long time. HSRP boards are displayed in the showcase. The guy there now and then cleans the dust deposits on it regularly hoping that one day govt. would give approval to implement.

Until then they are not supposed to take any orders.

There are several factors that lies hurdles like cost, characteristic like if tampered it will self destruct etc.. which govt needs to take a careful decision keeping best interest in mind of a common man.

But, in the market sign board makers are minting money with such look-like number plates and slowing the demand is increasing.

Naturally. I wouldn't be surprised either

. Asking that utsav URL might help unless someone needs as an emergency, IMO, wait & watch is best because I'm under the impression that RTO is also involved to some extend. So if one goes to RTO now, they will ask us a question back - "Sir, what is HSRP?"

from the link posted above, i found this point interesting!

A Chromium based third registration plate in the form of sticker is to be attached to the wind shield, wherein the number of engine and chassis are indicated along with the name of registering authority. If tampered with, it self destructs.

i have a HSRP look-alike... got it done for 650 bucks from a place in GP road. So my question is, i didnt get this sticker.. does the authorized vendor ( M/s Signs India Ltd.) give that also..

and what are the differences between the look-alike plates and the original ones provided by the authorized vendor or do the also provide only the same plates as done in every other place?

Govt. has appointed few vendors to who are authorized to make number plates as per HSRP requirements. These plates come with unique number on the plates and a sticker containing vehicle registration details. The plates also come with tamper proof snap locks to fix on the vehicle.

Look-like HSRP which is done by non-govt appointed manufacturer(e.g GP Road shops) does not come with above mentioned.

Will check and confirm if Signs India has started to make these HSRP.

can anyone tell what are the specifications of the size and shapes of the numbers.....like the height/width of the alpha numerals, spacing between them, number plate dimensions for bikes, etc

Update on HSRP!

I visited Signs India at Nandanam today to enquire about HSRP. According to them, they have not started making it. It looks like there are many procedure tangles to be sorted before govt. gives green signal.

Govt. has allotted vendor code 'AH' for Sign India Pvt. Ltd years ago. It was then priced at Rs.506/- for front and back for two wheelers. They expect the price tag might not be the same when it is introduced.

They were not able to predict when actually this be introduced.

I got my choice number yesterday. The procedure was a little painful but to get a choice number for just 2000 bucks is nice, (no broker involved here). Also the numbers which are VIP in Hyderabad are not VIP in Mumbai so luckyyy

now another doubt: soppose I get a number say '1'.....on the number plate, is it correct to write it as XY-12AB-1 or XY-12AB-0001?
