  • Normal idling speeds.

what is the normal or average idling speed for most 125cc and 150cc bikes???

Most of these owner manuals list them as 1400-1600 rpm, I also dont undrstand the viability of the range.I take it as 1400rpm is when the engine is cold just after start up and it increases to 1600 rpm maximum when the engine warms up to its operating temperature or higher.Sometimes I am also amazed at the pick up differences these idling rpms make!!!!

For example I rode a Kawasaki Wind 125 a few days ago whose idling rpm was set at 1800 rpms !!!!! and it had very instant and fast pick up and crisp throttle response.
Another instance is that in my Pulsar 180 which does not speed up as fast but just after I start the bike its rpm is tagged around 1200 and the engine seems to have irregular beats with the tacho needle swinging up and coming down,,,,,,it also does have a lot of cold morning start problem. So this thing puts me into confusion............a full on 180cc bike is giving hiccups on abrupt throttle for sprinting while a 125cc is gaining in on like a rocket !!!!!!

Is there something wrong with the idling tune of my bike OR shall I set the idle around 1500 rpm which is in the range of 1400-1600 rpms????????

    I seriously need some advice...........................

Idling RPM has nothing to do with power of your bike . more or less idle RPM will not affect the acc. or power . for most motorcycles the idle rpm is 1200 when cold and around 1400 when engine has warmed up .

The wind seems fast as its idling is 1800 and when one launches it ,it starts at a very high Rpm than your pulsar so feels jumpy and quick .If you also launch your bike at 1800 or 2000 it will also seem fast .your bike may not be in optimum condition like A/f mix ,spark plug condition to give cold start problems .

For the Pulsars, 1.1~1.2 k RPM for a cold engine and 1.4~1.5 k RPM for a warm/hot engine.
When everything comes ur way, u r in the wrong way ;)

well I did float the rpm setting to 1200 on startup and 1500 in warmup. But whats still missing is that the eninge beats are irregular and not constant, going up and coming down. Also its still Hiccuping on abrupt throttle rise instead of streaming power.Shall I tune its A/F mixture and set to higher CO emissions for racier throttle input????

Also, someone told me its a common thing that 4 stroke two wheelers have cold start problems in morning,I am advised to choke it once when I start up in the morning and leave the enigne to idle for a minute with the fuel cock open to solve my problems.IS it OK???
