  • Help me to choose a swing arm to fit rear disk break for pulsar 200 (Sri Lanka)

    Hey guys,

I want to fit a rear disk break for my pulsar 200. (today, i faced to a accident scenario and thanks to my front disk break i stopped). I don't know much about mechanic stuff. so i think you guys can help me on this
I heard that rear disk can't fit to pulsar 200 stock swing arm. so can anyone guess a compatible swing arm for me?

There is no Pulsar 220, zma models available to my country. so please give some help on this !

What about P220's rear disk and swingarm setup, i guess it should fit just fine!

I think this guy is from Srilanka having limited access to Pulsar & IMO, he will not have the feasibility to reach 220 spares.

You dont really need a stronger rear brake. Its the front you should be concentrating more on. Maybe you could put a better tyre on the front to improve your braking.

Putting a disc to the rear will add more weight, and then the rear wheel will lock up very quickly.

                +100 to this.

That thread was to point out the effectiveness of P220 rear brakes & I'm aware it doesn't discuss the same issue of yours.

                  help is here.

wow,its very nice to see more and more lover for pulsar.i am also a proud owner of various pulsar, but my fev is p 180 ug 2.

as of your problem ,u should know some things.breaking is a dynamic function which is controlled by various factors, one of them is disk bake or drum brake.frankly speaking,a drum break will do the job perfectly well if maintained properly, and i am saying this from my experience.though i am not sayng that drum break is as good as a disk setup, the most importent advantage from a disk is no or very less break fading.well break fade is a phenomena which is when a break heats up and looses its breaking efficiency, its more common with drum break of previous generations.now days the design is changed a bit of drum breaking and the heat control is good.the components are also designed in such a way that they can disperse the heat in a better way.

as of disk break from p 220,it uses a single caliper setup,it means it has a little bit less breaking from the front one as the front one is consists of 2 calipers.
i am not discouraging you to do the mod,i am just saying here to improve your bike, not a modification by which it underperform.

the best bet for you is p 220s rear axle which houses a mount for disk caliper mount.also u need a rear alloy of p 220 as it will have a mount for disk.
also u need to replace the right footpeg mount as it is different from drum model and houses a master cylinder kit.
i suggest u don't try with crf 250 swing arm as that bike is entirely different, stay away from it.
also on a specially impotent note i am suggesting you to try new irc tyres which are coming with p 220,which are softer compound tyres, will defiantly increase the traction before doing any modification.

also all the components from p 220 is direct fit in your p 200 as both of them share the same platform.
MY FINAL WORDS:-IF U WANT TO UPGREAD THEN SOURCE THE PARTS OF P 220,OR DONT DO IT!!JUST CHANGE TO SOFTER COMPOUND TYRES!!

                    Missing P200 in bajajauto site

I was just wondering if there will be a spec change between P200 & P220 & will there be a change in overall bike engineering. Hence I decided to check the overall length of both the bikes. Obviously, I checked bajajauto.com & boom!!! P200 is missing in their product list. Very much surprised to see that or am I failing to see something?

it will only be a matter of time when bajaj discontinues all 200cc bikes (i.e. avenger) and shifts everything to the 220cc (like it did to the 200 with Pulsar 220 DTSi S). So sourcing 220 spares wont be a big problem even in sri-lanka in 4-5 months. Anyways, i own a P220, and i would like to tell you the rear disc on the p220 does more harm than good in an urgent braking situation. everybody has to rely on the front brakes only for stopping effectively. I would sincerely suggest you to upgrade to a more grippy(soft compound not fat) tyre. That will take care of the braking grip.

The IRC tyres mentioned elsewere in this thread are good enough. If you can source the MRFs (the ones i have), it would be better as the MRFs provide better wet weather / offroad grip. IRCs are only good for the tarmac.

Well i have rear disk brake installed on my P180 with no swingams change needed. Yes in the initial few days i had a lot of trouble with swingarm bush and all but later when i switched to another mechanic brakes are fine.

IMO, P200 can have a direct fit of rear disk from P220 as they have the same swingarm, you would just need a few modifications like welding done to hold the setup. Yes, one more advice once you do this please change to tubeless tyres becuase i had a huge issue with puncturewaalas as they used to just expand my swingarm to pull out tyres.
