  • [Photo Feature]: Paper Air Filter Cleaning Procedure

Hello guys a good issue is missing here..

Any one knows the procedure of cleaning the paper air filter, not the air blowing method that the service center people usually do.

There isnt much you can actually do, than tapping it against a wall, or putting compressed air thru it in the reverse direction. Any form of liquid cleaner would spoil the filter...

So does it means we can't clean it in house?

well, you can clean it in house if you have a air compressor etc in your personal garage.

but anyways, I have been using a 2 years old paper filter in my Karizma now. now this paper filter, after being thoroughly cleaned with compressed air and all the tapping work, was soaked in the liquid meant for cleaning the K& N filters and then washed completely with running water. later on, it was allowed to dry under normal sun shine and I have been using it for around 5000 kms now.

not many of us would accept this treatmen and most of us would laugh on the fact that I washed it with a liquid which is comparatively more costly then the filter itself but it was more for the sake of experiment.

Also, in the past I tried washing the paper filters of my Maruti Zen and Mitsubishi Lancer and then letting it dry under the sun. It worked a lot to a great extent but still, nothing can beat a new filter and I however wont recommend washing the filters.

^^ thats for the foam type. you need to understand that if any of the paper filter gets damaged or shrinks or anything, it could restrict the airflow, rather than opening it up.

Also it could cause the filter particles to clog the carburettor/injector...

I replace the filters every 6000 kms on my bikes ( all.. ) so theres only one air cleaning in between.. Compared to the dusty environment we have here.. im gonna do the same for my ninja.

Nikhil, Unicorn's filter is paper type. Its just use n throw type. But inbetween should clean with pressured air. Oiling is generally done only for K&N (or may be others which i am unaware). Stock filter for Unicorn is around rs.90/-

New viscous filter from Honda seems to be good enough but I am not sure if that filter shape is suitable for Unicorn.

Now, I wont have liked to jumped into all this but I think the query was HOW to Clean the Filter and all. I think we should have restricted the discussion to the ways, procedures and all things to clean the Filter and not when was the last time I washed my bike, or when was the last time I Polished my shoes.

Further, referring to the query, I feel that the question was related to the way how to clean the filter. I fail to understand why should you be so bother about your filter when you basically are so ignorant that the filters would definitely be changed at the required service interval by the Authorised Service Personal. If you dont intend, or if you dont have a tendency of looking under the hood then please refrain from putting up the queries and then taking the thread to an unknown and irrelevant location.

I hope, you understand that this is not a CHAT ROOM and this forum should be utilized for healthy exchange of thoughts and knowledge.

                            Think about it.

                            all Cheers
