    Need help in Modifying 2001 CBZ

    Hello all,
    I am new to xbhp, so forgive me if I'm wrong anywhere. I own a 2001 CBZ(disc) and there are a few modifications that I would like to undertake for my bike, for which I need some expert advice.
    Note- had the engine timing, cam and valves reworked a year back, and installed a KnN air filter.
    1. Upsizing my carb jets. what size is ideal, and what other modifications are neccesary to accomodate this.
    2.Change the sprockets. how many teeth.
    3.upgrading my electricals. the headlight hardly has any power.

    So please kindly help/ suggest/advise me. Any help will be much appreciated. thank you.

      Since you are looking at improving a 9 year old bike, i am inclined to ask you what is the current state of the engine, the suspension, brakes, tyres etc???

      You mentioned that you had the engine timing, cam, etc reworked a year back.

      You could go for a rear sprocket from the CD100 or some other HH bike that matches the mounting holes of the CBZ, and has lesser number of teeth at the back. This will affect your acceleration, but give you an overall higher top speed, and in gear speed.

      Dont reduce more than 2 teeth at the back, or increase more than 1 tooth in the front, and dont do these simultaneously.

      With regards to the electrical, there are some gurus here, who can respond to your query, but generally see the condition of the headlamp, maybe the reflector has gone bad from inside, or the glass is no longer as clear. A new headlamp, and a complete check of wiring/rectifier/batter etc, would help with the light issue.

        IMO, CBZ has one of the worst reflector in business. A reflector change to, maybe a round one from ambition alone will improve the h/l by a fair bit. For substantial improvements, various methods are available, but these DIY mods require time and knowledge to implement them.

          My bikes engine is still a bit noisy, rattles a bit, but is smooth, very little vibration, suspension just great, not a fuss there and ya, the brakes are a bit off. I mean I got the front disc brakes fluid refilled and pads changed but since then there have been squeeking sounds coming. My tires are not in good shape because they slip a lot. other than these, there isnt a single qualm about this bike. Ya I shall check out the things that you have pointed out. thanx a million

              Hey someone please suggest on a jet size to fit as Ive just fitted a KnN air filter. I've read elsewhere in this forum that an aftermarket air filter and no upsized jet can overheat the engine and mess up the valves...... and can anyone suggest what bikes O-ring chain/ sprocket setup I can use on my bike for better top speed? at present my bike does 105-110 tops.

                Ok I own the same 2001 model bike & here are few things which I have done & may be of some help to you.

                1. K&N RC 1060 - No Up jetting done but it is doing quiet OK for me.

                2. Headlight - Changed to Round doom ( Classic Pulsar assembly with Gypsy (Autopol ) reflector & I have done coil rewinding to put 90/100W Philips Rally vision on AC. much much better than Stock.

                3. Sprocketing - I have used 15t front of Achiever in place of 14t & it works perfect to easily cruise @ 90kmph @ 8k rpm

                Headlight thing costed close to 1.5k & sprocketing 115rs

                  Can you post pics of the filter and the headlight. These were under my To-do list for sometime now.

                  Filter - is that a conical one ? you still need to remove the black cover which hides the stock filter ?

                    Filter is Conical & no you do not have to remove any black cover, Instead put the K&N Directly to Carb.
