  • [Help]: One more RX135

    Hi,

I got a 1997 RX135 4 Speed. It's in running condition, but that's it. I will put up pics later. I just filled up the engine oil and 2t oil yesterday. Some white smoke is coming out, but I won't be touching the engine anytime soon.

Can anyone help me find a good Bike mechanic in Indore, hopefully somewhere near Rau?

Also, where can I buy OEM parts for the bike in Indore? I have to start with the console, it's broken.

    Thanks for your time.

Kogu if the white smoke is coming out from the exhaust of your bike, then your bike is doing good man, if that smoke is coming from somewhere else, sorry then I wont be able to say hence be a bit more precise about what problem you facing buddy

        Hi,

It is coming from the exhaust. So that's good then!

No problem as such. Getting OEM parts, don't know where to get them from...

For the parts get in touch with a Yamaha Dealer and place an order with them. You might not get them over the counter and may have to wait. If you are lucky you may get all the parts that you need from Yamaha dealer itself. (This i am telling from my delhi experience, i hope it works out the same way in indore..)
Do let us know the updates...

You should be aware of Shyam Sangam Auto. I have once contacted them for Yamaha OEM parts. You might want to try and see if you can get the parts.

Thank you SriramEfunds, your contact really helped.

By the way, the shop was amazing, they had different counters for different manufactures. It was huge.

Bought a lot of stuff and got it fitted. Also got the silencer cleaned. White smoke is flowing thick , althought I am worried that too much of it is not a good sign. Got the speedo connected, doing 80 easily, not tried beyond that.

All the cables have been changed and new brake shoes installed.

Next trip I want to get work done on the electricals, get a new battery, etc.

The mechanic says that a new yamaha stock barrel and piston would cost Rs. 2200/-. I find that hard to believe, do you guys think that's the right price?

Going back Saturday to get side mirrors, the shop said they will order the original ones for me. In the meantime, have to get the chain tightened and get it washed. Then it will be time to take some pictures.

The oil pump is working, should I continue adding oil to the petrol? How much oil should be added to a liter of petrol?

No way!!! I'm sure many of our friends here will agree with me. It should be possible only if the barrel is sleeved one (may be even half sleeved) which is totally worthless. Trust me, I've been a victim of sleeved barrel, so I know how it sucks!!!

Before buying, just check if adding the mirrors reduces the vibrations. To my surprise (didn't expect), I added RE mirrors & the bikes vibration was reduced considerably, say the vibrations starts only after 75 compared to the earlier 60. So you may want to check out this factor before buying the OE mirrors.

Just check the Rx100 manual & I'm sure this is a simple DIY stuff.

Well it depends on you. Way back in mid 90's a friend of mine was riding Rx100 for several 100 Kms & all of sudden his pistons are jammed. The culprit - the oil pump that was working, stopped working in between. I wouldn't blame your working oil pump, but for safety I would recommend adding few ounces to the tank.

                    1. I'm not surprised when the mechanic quoted 2200/- for the yamaha barrel. However, those are after market kit and it comes with the brand Diamond (correct me if wrong). Those does work for Yamaha, but nothing compares to the OE stock barrel.

Barrel is one of the main parts which helps in giving performance, would definitely discourage you to go for the after market products as they are no where near the OE in terms of quality.
One small suggestion I could give is that, look around in some small town Yamaha dealer around your place if he could get some old stock which is lying still with them if you cannot get from Yamaha ASC in your city.

                    2. If Shyam Sangam Auto said that they would get you OE mirrors, try asking them if it Alpha Toyo.

                    3. As I have always stated that, there is really no need for you to add oil in the petrol tank if your oil pump is working fine.

Though there is no harm in mixing small quantity to the petrol tank. Again, excess oil might foul spark plug. Advise regular check up of oil pump would ensure safety.

Can't wait to see the pictures...

I will definitely ask Shyam guys whether it is Alpha Toyo.

                      @aargee - I don't have the manual. I know it's a simple operation, but I don't have the necessary tools.

I will definitely not go for any non OEM parts. Everything I bought today was Genuine Yamaha spares. It cost a bit more, but I want to make it as stock as possible.

Regarding the barrel, I will also talk to the Shyam Auto if they can source it. I am also looking at dealers in Bhopal, maybe they might have it in stock. I will call up as many Yamaha dealers as I can find. I will not get any after market barrel. I am also trying to avoid a rebore. Let's see. My usage is minimal so I have the luxury of waiting.

Meanwhile, would you help with these things?

                      - clean piston head top
                      - piston slap <-I don't know what this is
                      - worn rings

Can these be changed now? The engine does make a lot of noise, which the mechanic has attributed it to the piston.

Check with sound mechanic and zero down the issue. If it because of the piston, what I would suggest is that you change the piston kit completely depends on the bore condition and the current piston size.

You get original ART Piston (Japan) OE for RX135 from Yamaha ASC, else you get these from Bangalore. It is priced around 1200 for the complete piston kit with Yamaha box packing.

If you look under the piston, there will be ART embedded.

I am a bit confused. Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but don't we replace both the piston and the barrel? Or can we just replace the piston?

Can I replace the piston now and replace the barrel later? That is, if I find the piston but not the barrel, can I replace the piston now and wait for the barrel, and replace the barrel when I can source it?

If there is enough meat in the barell, reboring by a specialist will give the engine better performance than a new barell
