  • Bajaj Pulsar 150 (2004) model, major gear problem

    Hi All,

I am facing a problem from past 1 week, first I noticed that there is some noise coming from my chain, some clinking noise which can be heard in higher gears. My mechanic advise me to change the rear wheel ball bearing and a rubber part which has 6 bracket.

He installed the bearing of TATA make ( is that a good brand for bike parts? or if BOSCH is better, he was saying that TATA or SGF are good brands better than BOSCH, please advise). But still the problem was there, so he opens the left size gear box(I suppose) and show me that the part in which the gear lever is attached is loose, due to which the sound is coming. He advises me to change it there, but I want to have a second opinion about it. Also he was saying that the engine needs to be opened and see if there is any problem there, and also change the clutch plate if required.

That's has been two days back, I didn't drove the bike from then, but today when I drive the bike, after 2-3 kms some strange sound started coming like when the break pads is completely spent and if you brake it emits same kind of sound. But at that time I was not braking. I also noticed that some oil is leaking from the side which mechanic had opened.

So please advise me what should I do in this case, I am planning to do it this saturday. Should I get it done from there or go to Bajaj S.S. I dnt believe Bajaj guys because of my past experience in which they always try to rip me .

Or provide me some good mechanic reference in Navi Mumbai. Please advise as I don't want the engine to get opened . And if in worst case it should be then it should be done by some good mechanic.

    Thanks in advance
    Abhay K. Singh

A 2004 Model Pulsar - it should be the V1 Pulsar with the Round Headlight (Correct me if im wrong)..

Have you changed your Clutch Plates before?
Have you changed the ball bearings of the Front and back before?

The possible thing is that the Clutch Plates might have worned out...Or a serious problem in your Engine...

Bajaj does offers good Service - but since your Bike is an older one and you do not get any Guarantee for the parts....I would rather advice you to get this done with your Trusted Local Mechanic....as In my expereience there are many Road Side Mechanics who are far more better that the SVC Guys....

          Hi ,

No it was with the flaring, DTSi.
I haven't change the clutch plate before. Ball bearing has been replaced twice I think.

I would also like to add that the gear has become very hard, sometimes it works very smooth, but at times it feels like it is stucked then I have to hold clutch again and move the bike then it works, what can be the issue..??

Thank you for the advice, but little skeptical about getting it done from outside Bajaj, do you have any idea about how much it will cost?

            ^^

As per your says - this seems to be a Clutch Plate problem
1- Which Engine Oil you Use
2 - How often You change your Engine oil

If the Engine Oil history is perfect - then it should be the problem with the Clutch Plates - You may require to Change them
It should cost you not more than 600INR... for changing the Plates...(Im not too sure about the Money - coz i have replaced Clutch Plates for My V1 Pulsar some 2 years back)

How hard you feel the Clutch is? Is it easy or hard?

Bajaj SVC can be best - but again they will cost you more and servicing will be only Fair enough (as per my experiences)
If you feel your Local mechanic is Experienced and knows many things you can very well get this done by him itself...

              Hi thunder,

              Thanks 4 the Reply.

The mechanic told me that it might be the cluth plate or some gear lever problem and in extreme case there might be some engine issue,
I use normal Castrol oil, and engine oil change duration is 1500-2000km, so I dont think engine oil is the culprit.

Clutch itself is not so hard, but the while changing gears the gear feels hard.

I will try the mechanic, and will make sure that with the bike all day while he is working on it.

hey i am experiencing the same problem , i hav a pulsar 180 2002 model.
did you find out the salution ? is it because of the gear lever or the clutch plate ?

Mostly the clutch plate is the culprit here. Make sure that the mechanic uses original clutch plates(authorised bajaj spares) and also its of ur model(some stupid mechanic used clutch drum of pulsar 150, came to know about it in the last serive). And someone once told me that making the clutch tight will make gearshift lose and vice versa. Try the setting of the clutch first, if it doesnt work out then change the clutch plates.
                  All the best!
