  • Gear shifts for Avenger180

Since the past month I have been having issues with the gear shift on my Avenger. The shifts have been a bit hard and I cant move from neutral to first. I need to press the clutch a couple of times and race a bit. Also moving from 1/2 to neutral OR to higher gears is a bit 'iffy' and the shifts have a mind of their own.
I changed the engine oil (Valvoline P4T semi-synth) and also the clutch plates. Still the issue persisted. I took it to a Bajaj service center nearby and the guy said that the gear shaft has to be changed. So I changed it. Theres still not much of a difference esp in traffic when gears need to be changed a bit more frequently, the box seems to be confused

    Any suggestions?

I am also looking for a good mechanic in Marthahalli, Brookefield, Whitefield area.

    Thanks,
    Beo

Haha...this seems to be the same as what I'm experiencing. Try changing the main shaft in addition & see if there's a difference.

I did change the main gear shaft. The shaft cost about 190+150labour.

Upshifts are ok but downshifts are very pathetic. Dont know whats wrong..

I know most Bangaloreans would suggest taking it to Venkat's Autoservice but thats too far away...not an option

how many kms has your bike run?? how old is it?? whats the condition of the clutch drum?? and how much play do u have on the clutch lever. When the bike is stationary and the engine is off, how much play does the gear lever have before it engages the gear?? is it more than normal?

              run about 28k kms.
              Its 3.5 years old.
I recently changed the clutch and pressure plates, no idea about the drum.
The play is about 3-5mm on the lever.
The gear lever play is normal, not much of a difference to what it was before

^^ seems to be a gear shaft/dog issue.

But I changed the shaft, also saw the old one that was bent. Do you think this caused any damage to the levers of the gear box?
I asked the mech and he said rest was ok. I see this issue only on downshifts. upshifts are ok.
The gear lever of the avy is not attached to the shaft directly, it connects through a lever. I dont suspect any issues in this though.

Anybody knows a trusted mech around marthahalli/whitefield in Bangalore?

                  Thanks,

Please check your gear dog and clutch drum. Might be damaged.

In my 180 cl the clutch drum has cut 3 to 4 times.
