          Yesterday went to mech and found the clutch cable was loose. And some improvement on the GearShift.

          Also he told need to open and find the exact issue in clutch plate n gear box maybe sometime later.

              Looks like the clutch bell is shot, check your clutch bell but stiiiiiiiiiill i feel the gbox is culprit ..check both.

                High guys, i have a 1987 rx100, wont say its in good shape but its running. Recently i noticed that gear oil is leaking from the magnet side, like from below the front sprocket maybe. Its not leaking too much but made a puddle on the floor like 1-1.5 inch wide, the bike was running with very low gear oil, like only 2-2.5mm visible in the oil dipstick so i topped the gear oil a little bit could that have caused this? As much a i know i didn't overfill it. But earlier there was no such leak, could it be a busted seal? Inputs would be appreciated.

                  The RX100 belongs to the old school design which primarily used mineral oil. If you have leak try not to use Synthetic since the particles are much smaller and likely to cause leaks. Most mineral oil of 10W40 grade will work fine. If the leak is through the sprocket drive shaft oil seal, then get it changed ASAP.

                    Thanks for the input.. and yes i committed the above mentioned infamous mistake of using the synthetic oil for topping up. I have order the oil seal kit and a lot of other stuff but haven't been able to check the exact source of the leak but its surely from either the sprocket, push rod or gear shaft. I really feel guilty as i always knew old vehicles cannot take Synthetic oil but never considered the RX to be old in that sense.

                      First try the easy fix...Drain the present oil totally and then fill it with a 20W50 mineral oil. It may fix your problem, drive for about 25 to 50 Kms with new 20w50 mineral oil and see. The leak may stop after initial run..
                      The RX100 is a very old design , simple to split and assemble the crank case, and easy to work on the parts....but it has no auto advance of Ignition like many later model bikes. This is why it has pathetic FE and low end will be a drag. The timing is set to 20 BTDC static .

                        Thank you for your input sir.. will definitely try this as if this works i would save the oil seals i brought for later. At this point my bike is just a "running" bike with many things wrong, currently i am stacking on parts, few at a time as finding parts is very difficult and more difficult is finding a right mechanic. I am just so confused with this bike. Its got so much emotional sentiment attached to it as it has been in the family for 30+ years. But at same time its like luck isn't in my hands the moment get something right, another issue pops up. But with the grace of god there's no issue in the general running of the bike, its like the bike is holding up on itself just at the point where if something is opened up to be replaced, a lot more of the parts would give up and would require replacement. By the way do check on my restoration thread if you guys would like to.

In old times, when I used to work on them to help myself( I had owned one) and friends, we used to open the engine in the morning for bore,crank work and get it assembled and running by late evening.....But then the bike was in Production , and all spares available off the shelf.

                          I think there is a shop in Erode with available spares..I am not able to recollect the name....may be Murugan Auto ..not too sure. Hope this helps

                            Yes its very simple to work on as me and dad used to work ourself on it but back then(not even so back, like 2017-18) parts where available. Once on of the struts on the cylinder block got busted due to over torquing and we ourself opened the block and got some lathe work done and got a new strut fitted and then reassembled the engine. Learned a lot by that event itself. I would say the spares crisis situation has happened after the lockdown. Even when our bike was being used regularly till about 2014-15 parts where very much available if not original, aftermarket stuff but still usable. Now even aftermarket stuff is hard to find in the offline market here in Guwahati or maybe i am looking at the wrong places. But i have bought many spares from moto utility online store and motolegacy online store. So far satisfied with both but would say motolegacy store has better pricing. Most other stores generally charge double or more.
