          hi prakrit - which college are you representing??? coz what you can do easiest is to approach other colleges who have already made their cars and run em in the last few years, can loan you or sell you the engine...

          I remember a 2004 expo when one college had used the bullet 535cc engine for propulsion... ( no way, and dont even think about it, i had a mad a$$ argument with the leader of the pack ).

          Your best bet is a 600cc in line 4 cylinder engine from any sports bike, mated to a decent gearbox with tall enough ratios for performance.

          Whats the budget like for the drive train, i might be able to make a few calls in delhi.

            I have heard from some of my friends that Pudupetty in Chennai is famous for buying used engines. I have never been there but try researching on this place for your project.

              @jd666
              i'm representing HMRITM,well since teams participate in the said competition year after year it rules out the possibility of getting it from another team.An inline 4 is what am looking for preferably a k6 cbr considering the track layout.
              since this is a self funded project am looking for the best price i can get, any help would be deeply appreciated.

                ^^ dint really get your college.. but anyways.. a 06 R6 engine... ill see what i can do.. In terms of drive trains other than from bikes and below 600cc, i doubt there are any options other than to get an engine imported.

                Wont your college give you a students permit letter, and you can them import the engine from any country, without paying any duties!!

                Also are only 4 strokes allowed.. or are you allowed to smoke the competition using a 500cc V4 two stroke or something!!

                    I smell RD500 cooking here...nice option for an engine though, extremly powerfull and light.

                          ^^ yup, but an engine of the rd500 wont be less than 2-3 lakhs considering the value of the bike with classic owners.

                          Look up scrap sales in singapore/thailand/indonesia, if you have friends, even japan.

                          Like i said before, you can easily import anything on a student license, so wheels, tyres, transmission, engine, everything is possible.

                            @jd::read smwhere, 84bhp at the rear wheel, must be some 100 odd at crank..but the flat torque curve till 10,000 rpm and ultra light engine block is something that put 600inlines to shame....i bet it will be a force to reckon with if this guys gets hold of a rd500 powerplant+ its a two stroke so its easier to harness power..

                            @prakrit::Id advice you to get some suspension parts imported under that student licence thingy, jd refered...tyres r available n so must be wheels

                              @jd666 2-3lakhs ouch! that hurt,
                              well as far as the scrap sales are concerned,is there an online option?
                              also the race slicks and the rims are being provided by the organizers; and yes you are right that we can import all that stuff but there is a financial constraint
                              @harmeet
                              This competition is more of a design challange so self fabricated parts are appreciated by the organisers and students do often come up with very new radical designs for suspensions and various other departments of the car; and we are also trying come up with our own innovation for the suspension part so i have put the thought of importing the suspension on hold for now

                              @ all
                              I am a noob at race tuning engines so; so is there some piece of advice for me as to how start up with it also some source of info that i can refer to?
