  • Unbearable noise from my bike brakes - Help

    Hi all,

    I have a Shine bought 20 ago..Did 13k with it..

Now a days the brakes are creating noise such that any Heart patients near my bike will die because of its magnitude..Sqeal noise from both front and rear..Especially a lot from rear..So its embarassing to use them amidst people.

I also observed that most of the Shine I come across have this same problem.

Since this type of noise is associated with lining material..You guys pls help me with any other retro fit lined shoe (brake shoe) which will not have this much noise..

I am from chennai and bought it from JSP Honda, ANNA NAGAR. The SVC guys dont know wat to do to reduce the noise. I asked them to replace with a better grade brake lining material. But they are unaware of it.

Guys help me to fix it.

The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

My 2 cents - don't go for any retro fitment; just clean the inner portion of the drum, clean the brake shoes, clean the brake rod in the rear, lubricate the springs & the cam shaft.

        Remove the break drums..
scrap the break shoe with a sand paper. till the shoe looks to be new. Fit it back the problem will be solved.

For one, brake shoe/pads materials can cause noise. Some materials are more prone to making noise than the other, hence the price difference also. On other hand yours might be screaming for new sets. You can do as what others have already suggested or you can do some research and see if some other brands can fit in yours.

Guys one week before only I changed the linings..At the time itself I asked the SVC guy to clean the dust..But now with the new lining & cleaned drum, noise is coming..

Did the noise exist before replacing the brake shoes? It may be a problem with them.

Ask your mechanic to try to reduce the free play between the brake shoes and the pin/pivot by adding a plastic bush or similar. This could cure the problem.

Ok, how about the braking? Is it good, bad, improved, worsened? Compare if before & after servicing & let us know.

The brake bite is same as before..No change in braking & efficiency.

@ Iamvik - The noise existed with the former brake shoes also..Moreover the freeplay is nothing to do with that I reckon..

And guys this is definitely squeal noise..

This noise is not even coming due to liniing glazing (condition occurs due to overheating. Liner material will shine like glass at this condition)

                    Interesting thing is,
in cold brakes the noise is coming but after i heated it to some extent the noise disappears..I observed this phenomena even with the former brake shoes.

Try changing the camshaft/case/lever; well, you don't have to buy one, you can suggest this to the ASC person & ask him to carry out this for you from a different bike.
