  • Summer Riding Gear

Ok, so there are lots of thread on riding gear ... but what do you do in the summer in order to maintain safety but not absolutely bake? It's just starting to get warm in Delhi, and I've already noticed a lot more bikers riding in short sleeves and without gloves. Is not wearing gear the only option, or is there a way to manage the heat and still wear proper riding gear?

    Query Approved and Moved

That's not the solution. I for always wear riding gear be it summer, winter or rains. Mesh Jacket is the answer. Yeah you still sweat but quite less as compared to other riding jackets. Regarding gloves I never have any issues with leather ones even when the temperature is 40degree.

me too....but surprisingly my leathers-FS are providing better ventilation (especially at the back area) compared to my mesh -Rjays.

It can also be attributed to the fact that leather jacket has massive vents at front & rear whereas Rjays mesh doesn't

as mg boss said no gear=no brain er.
as my personal experience if u use a non mesh type jacket also and cruise down on highway with riding boots and gloves it s not a prob,.i feel it saves me from heatwaves..

mesh is the answer here, mesh jacket/mesh gloves/mesh trousers.
use a thin cotton t shirt inside the jacket.
use of tinted visors help a lot to reduce strain on eyes.

rehydrate your self as often as possible, avoid soft drinks and teas as they tend to dehydrate you,use plain water or a hint of ors is a winning combo.

use full face helmets which has airflow in it.half helmets with cloth on the face in strictly no no.
when on the move the wind chill factor works and the heat goes down a bit so chill and use gears.

        if tooo much hot then a helmet+elbow guard+knee guard+shoes is minimum/

I mostly wear a mesh jacket (it remains warm throughout most of the year where I live)&riding pants+boots+leather gloves, all Cramster, with CE approved armor, like this: xBhp.com : The Global Indian Biking Community - Sarvajit's Album: My Bikes - Picture
If I feel its a short/burning hot ride, I switch over to wearing knee&elbow protectors instead of the jacket&riding pants. Replace leather gloves with DSG mesh.
Since I don't like to leave my chest&back uncovered, I use the Crimson Moto Gear thorax chest protector.
With this combo, I'm still fully protected, but breathing more freely, like this: xBhp.com : The Global Indian Biking Community - Sarvajit's Album: My Bikes - Picture
Oh yeah I always wear the same shoes&helmet with balaclava inside-I just change the visor to a tinted one-helps in reducing the heat to a large extent.

I own Rjays mesh myself. Its surprising that a leather jacket can be better ventilated than mesh because especially the "Rjays jacket has no vents as such". "The entire jacket is ventilated ". Anyway have you tried removing the big padding on the back that covers almost the entire back portion (the removable one)? This may be preventing air to escape at the rear. If not, try this, the back will be vented now. And if you hold up the jacket, you will be able to see through the jacket. I removed mine, however I kept the shoulder and elbow paddings. mmm.. I know thats compromising a little on safety but the heat...blah..blah..

BTW the best solution in my opinion in very hot climate are knee/elbow guards and gloves. No need to mention helmets. I currently use riding jacket with knee guards and gloves. Planning to get elbow guards and see how it fares. Considering knee guards has almost zero effect in hot weather, I am assuming elbow guards will not be much worse.

^^ exactly ..had removed once & yaa it did feel much comfortable after that But luckily got this Fieldsheer one & it is offering much more safety without the heat...

Additionally summers have just started in Mumbai so this will be a real test...

Till than I am happy about leathers....
