      I usually detect overheating with a pungent smell; agreed that it could even be due to improper combustion, however, if the carbs/FI are good, (besides no one knows your bike better than you do), then this smell should be evident for over heating;

      - When its over heated, never switch off the ignition immediately.
      - Stop the moving vehicle under some a shade without revving
      - Idle the vehicle & open the throttle frequently BUT strictly keep the RPM under 1000/2000 or so (slightly more than idling) & gradually reduce the frequency in about 2-3 minutes or so
      - Finally idle the motorcycle for about a minute or so & stop the engine
      - Wait for about 15-30 minutes to cool off the engine depending on how much more KM is your service station & then start riding again not to over heat

      PS - If someone is riding like this to overheat the engine, bless them whole heartedly for an engine seizure. I mean, why ride the bike like this at all? To me, an engine tends to overheat only when you ride like a maniac for

        My bike emits a burning smell after riding for a 6-7km.The engine felt a little hot too but i thought the bike engine is gereally hot after running because it is air cooled.It felt silky smooth till 4500 rpm but above 5000rpm it vibrates a lot.
        But the interesting thing is, i can put the bike in first gear and release the clutch a tiny bit to get a little movement(very little) and after that i can let go of the clutch completely the bike moves in 5km/hour on idle rpm with out stalling
        why is it happening to my ride?

        My ride is a Pulser 180 dtsi with 30462km in the odo

          Does this happen on 4th & 5th also?

          Hope this is not on slopes; if on straight road, then idling is high or you've turned ON the choke.

            Yes in every gear the bike felt silky smooth till 4500rpm but after 5000rpm vibrations make their intentions clear

            The idle rpm needle is in 1250-1500 rpm.The choke lever is stuck from the past 4 months.If choke is engaged we can hear the engine sound increasing.Nothing abnormal can be heard.No increased sound.The sound is just like idling, but the vehicle can move if managed to get a little movement.

              What is your idle RPM in neutral in a warm engine?

                Its 1500rpm when the engine is hot and about 1100-1250rpm in normal condition
