  • Bajaj Kristal Issues - pls help

    Dear All,

    Good Evng..!

    This is surendar from Chennai.

My sister is having a Bajaj Kristal almost for past two years now.

And we are facing frequent problems with the vehicle.

    1) The vehicle clogs at lower speeds, and the engine struggles at speed greater than 45 km/hr, the engine clogs as if the petrol is about to get over. When we took it to Bajaj Service center, they said the petrol pump needs to be changed. There is a small motor which pumps the petrol to engine, we had to replace it a year's time. Note: The petrol tank of Kristal is at the bottom, where the rider keeps their legs. hence there is a small battery operated motor which pumps petrol to engine.

    2) The vehicle takes atleast 20 mins to start, if the vehicle is left unused for 4-5 days.

    3) The vehicle does not start when it gets wet in the rain for 2 - 3 hours.

    4) The vehicle tends to fall at higher speed when the front brake is applied along with rear brake. When told this to service center, they said the front fork and chasis is bent, so we to change it. And it costs around Rs 2500..!! My sister just had a small accident, where in the front fairing had to be changed. I really wonder that how chasis would have got bent, because it was only minor accident. Please help me understanding this brake problem better.

    5) The power of the vehicle is not substituted with the powerful brake, the vehicle does not stop at higher speeds even with the new brake shoe.

    6) The body of the vehicle is poorly built with all plastic which tends to make noise just one day after service.

    7) The vehicle does not start immediately when its used at day's beginning. We have to wait until the petrol motor(which pumps petrol to engine from the tank placed below) to stop. Sometimes we have to turn off the key and turn it on again for using the electric start.

    8) We had changed the silencer in one and half year's time, the silencer developed holes near the exhaust.

    9) we have changed the battery, the first one lasted only for a year.

    10) The vehicle makes very bad noise at higher speeds, it sounds like a four stroke Auto.

Folks here's the worst of all:

    11) The front wheel rim broken while riding the front tyre popped out, and the brake drum hit the road, since it was a turning, i was in lower speed, and escaped miraculously. I hit my jaw and had a sprain in my hand. It was in Madhya Kailash turning from Tidel park road, OMR. When I went to Bajaj service center in Adyar, the supervisor just blamed me saying that it is because of the rust, but there was no rust at all. I wonder how come the 2 year old vehicle's rim gets rusted so soon and breaks off while riding the bike. The accident could have been fatal.

Please help me understand, are the other users facing the same problems.

Its high time for Bajaj to work on these issues to be successful in scooter segment.

Please suggest how to get rid of these problems, and i want to tell you, this vehicle is well maintained and we regularly servicing the vehicle at Baja authorised service centers.

In spite of that these many problems are persisting.

    Pls help..

    Regards,
    Surendar, Chennai

im guessing thats why they have discontinued the kristal.

mate most of your issues are due to the age of the vehicle.

      you need

      - a complete carburettor clean
      - check spark plug, airfilter, and replace
      - check the engine tappets and get them adjusted
      - Chassis alignment and fork alignment can be checked by any good mech, also your vehicle should not pull to one side.

      - Bad brakes could be due to the drum being smoothened out from inside. You need to get it scrubbed with sand paper and let the brakes wear again, that should improve the grip.

can you post some pics of the affected areas?? silencer, front rim etc???

My offerings to the gods of speed -

      - KTM Duke 200
      - Yamaha RXZ 5 speed

Yeah, but I am giving it to the autorised service center only, in spite of these i face these problems.

As you specified that the problems are because of age of vehicle, to quote its only two years old, i can't belive the vehicle does not even last for 2 years.

The fork or chasis bent can be removed right? or we have to change it.?
