  • Help me rebuild my suzuki shaolin

    Hi all,

I have recently bought a Suzuki Shaolin 98' from my friend.

The bike is in running condition. Currently I am in process of getting some mechanicals rite.

I have the following upgrades in mind. So please help me solving these.

1.I am looking at fitting front disc brakes for the Shaolin. Will it be an overkill for the front brakes!? If not, which front brake system would optimally fit the Shaolin. And how much will it cost approximately..

    2. The roaring sound is fine now but still i need the sound to be just like yamaha rx100 (or) rx135.. What can be done to do so?

    3. Also the major thing that disturbs me is the MILEAGE. Although the bikes performance is excellent , i get a maximum of 26 kmpl only... Is that correct or something can be done to increase it. If there are some ways to increase the mileage , please let it my notice so that i will try to that..

I am also expecting more suggestions on any specific things that I overlooked here would be of great help!

If you are a shaolin user , please let out your experiences with your shaolin..

Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

Overkill? Not sure I understood; anyday disc brakes are better compared to drums. I'm no expert to mix & match, but here's a tip - you may want to check if Apache's/Fiero's fork & discs are a direct match.

IMO, if you need that roaring sound, you need to change the cylinder, head, crankshaft, exhaust, reeds, carbs; but if you change all these you'll also need to change the frame & axle & finally end up changing your motorcycle.

though I've no experience with Shaolin, 26 is way too less; check your motorcycle thoroughly checked at TVS A.S.S & especially with the one who knows about the motorcycle as most of the folks in TVS A.S.S will be familiar only with 4 strokes.

          Ok will see to it

Hey thanks man... Will check it with the T.V.S A.S.S as you said...
I accept disc brakes are better than drum brakes but what would be the approximate cost for fitting disc brakes ??

It will be wise idea to go for a disc breaks only if you plan to have this one for next some years, otherwise it will of no use. As you say you its mileage is just 26kmpl you have a chance to get frustrated with the bikes mileage in next some days.

So what i say is that first try to do something which make the mileage to touch 35kmpl at least and after that go for other physical changes.

And again getting better mileage i have to quote the ideas of "aargee" and it is the only thing you can do for getting a better mileage.

Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

hey man.. i've got a shaolin with a disc brake.. fit hte original suzuki fiero disc. i would suggest te fiero f2 disc(the one on the right hand side) parts for my version are a bit of a pain. to get the speedo worm to wokrk i have to cut open a new worm and replace the mechanicals . so i'd suggest trying out a f2 disc kit.

want it to be louder? try out a shogun free flow. i had that for a while, but it was a bit too loud for me.

i've got a brand new bore kit running. done maybe 3000 km with it. during running in(keeping rpm less than 4k) i would get over 50kmpl. touring i get a mileage of around 40(maintaining speeds of 70-80). open up the engine see if its seized. you could replace the piston.. suzuki never sold oversize pistons, but a forum member managed to ocated the correct oversize pistons and imported them. that could be an option for you
