  • RX-100 Initial pickup

    Hi guys,

I recently brought 1988 model RX-100 and I am trying to restore it. I replaced the kicker, gear lever, fork oil and seal, indicators and engine oil etc...

When I brought it there was too much smoke and noise. I got the muffler replaced and the noise is reduced a bit, but the smoke remains... Also I noticed that there is some humming noise at idle. The other problem is there is no initial pickup, the bike revs but some how I feel it's not reaching the wheel!

I spoke to the mechanic and he says he has to re-bore it, the current bore size is at already at third, the other mechanic I spoke to wants to check the rings and clutch.

Can you guys please throw some light as to what can be done?

Well even I would go for clutch and ring check before getting the rebore done. And try to get some expertise mechanic's advice as well if u know any in your region

hey bro, check the piston rings and the condition of the piston, and also the oil pump, this is a major cause of the smoke coming out, and as u said your bike is running on its 3rd bore, then its better to try to fiz the issues without reboring

            Update:

The head gasket was to be replaced, while tighting the bore screw, one of the screw came out (the thread of one of the bolts were out). I have attached the pic... Also there were quite a few scratches on the piston and the bore so it was clear it was to be re-bored again

The clutch plate, piston rings were ok so the only thing now was the scratches on the piston and the bore. So I decided to get it re-bored in-spite of the fact that after this time I have to get a new bore (if I get it)

I will post updates tomorrow when I get the bike...

Hey guys, I am in Bangalore.. can you please let me know where I can get the "Yamaha" standard size bore? I head a lot of mechanics say we dont get the RX-100 one but RX-135.... I want a RX-100 one coz I want to keep it as "stock"

Damn thats a seizure, no doubt you need a rebore.

Does the seizure happen due to lack of engine oil?

Where do I get the new RX-100 bore?

Ram, welcome to world of patience, welcome to the world of ever waiting, welcome to the world of Rx cylinder search
I don't know what size you're running presently, if you're running on last oversize, then sleeve it to the standard size.

god the piston is in pretty bad shape, dude u will definetly have to rebore!! i guess after this your bike will be on 4 oversize, well bro after the 4th theres an option of sleeve, but my opinion is that to get new standard blocks instead of sleeve, because after the sleeve is done the bike heats up pretty fast and looses power, this is because most of the the time sleeves are not perfectly done due to technical errors, find some one good at it and then it might work!! and as far for new standard blocks, it will be very hard to find them!! any ways good luck with the bike!!

i am in pune, and am also searching blocks for my rx135, will contact you if i come across rx100 block as well, till then keep the search on!!!

Yeah...lack of engine oil leads to engine seizure..!

Hey guys, I came across a G1 bore which is currently @ 2nd size with a mechanic. One of the fins on the bore is a little bent though.... Is it ok to buy it?
