  • ZMA pickup problem

    Guys,

I am facing a weird problem with my ZMA. The bike seems to run quite well when i start and ride the bike in the morning. The pickup is also good, but the problem starts when i get to 'stop and go' traffic. The pickup of the bike goes down and it seems like i am riding the bike from 2nd gear (while i am riding the bike from 1st gear). The bike also knocks after that. I spoke to my mech, he said the clutch plates are fine. My ZMA is more then a yr old.

The clutch setting is currently at full.

    Bike experts..please help

the problem may be with your front / rear brakes getting jammed in stop go traffic possibly your rear brake due to overtightening etc.

          nothing wrong with the brakes.

The bike doesnt have any issue at high rpms..

Guys, could it be the valve?

I have heard from a few that if there is something wrong with the valve then the knocking issue occurs.

if you say there is a knocking problem, then the mixture might be too lean and thus the sluggish pickup..refer to your manual for the correct air screw setting or go to a service center and get your carb tuned

I am facing the same issue. It works perfectlly when cold. Traffic or long rides, generous throttle, the low end just goes. HUGE KNOCK! Add a pillion and she just wont move! Even in first! And I thought I was the only one!
Read this. I need help man. Its has done 21k on the ODO.

As i said, go to a service center and get the carb tuned
Also ask the svc guy to check the clutch plates although it has got nothing to do with the knock but the the sluggish pickup

Thanks Guys for your valuable replies..really appreciate it.

But now I am facing a different issue. This issue was present from quite a while, I just didnt know that it was an 'issue'..hehe. I thought it was the normal characteristic of the engine.

Now lemme come to the issue. If i wanna shift gears beyond 4k rpm, the engine gives a knocking sound. The sound is similar to the one that comes in the avenger when u change the gears at high rpms (this is what i observed in the 3 avenger bikes that i rode till now).

A friend of mine said that the piston might be faulty as the bike was giving out white smoke. He advised me to get the block piston replaced as the bike is still in warranty. The mechs at the service station replaced just the piston rings. The white smoke is now gone, but the knocking issue still persists.

Would replacing the block-piston take care of the problem or is there something else to it?

                  Guys..pls help.

I dont really think it is a tuning issue..newz, will get it checked too!

has anyone of you tried replacing the clutch cable or inspecting the clutch housing springs??? or maybe even replacing em?

Is the bike getting too hot??? ( engine )

This problem seems to be a bugbear with the Zma R's man. Abhishek Murdeshwar too had the same issue.
Not sure if it was resolved even after a cylinder head and piston change.
Any idea as to what could be the issue?

                            Cheers !
