  • suzuki shogun help

hi guys, i have come across a stock suzuki shogun in bhopal which a friend of mine owns. He is selling the bike now. i am willing to buy the bike as it is rare and a superb machine.

i dont remember the no of kms the bike has run, will check it tomm but i think its a 2000 model bike with all the papers in place.... and i am getting the bike for 5k

    now the questions...
    1. firstly. the bike will be sent to delhi after it has been bought because i am gifting it to my father, so 'is there a law in delhi which says that two strokes are not allowed regarding the euro 4 rule ?

    2. secondly, if i buy this bike then i will be restoring it to factory condition, so how much i need to spend on the restoration project. please keep in mind that i am a student and cant spend too much but can try the most for 20k that too in parts.

    3. lastly, will i get the spare parts easily or do i need to get it shipped from different parts of the country?

    these are my main questions.

i want to treat this bike with respect. i dont want to store it in the garage and wait till it gets ruined.

    please help me

      No rule

My friend i can only answer your first query as i live in Delhi and i own a RX 100.

First of all these rules are applied to New Vehicles which contain two stroke engines (like LML NV).Only those units which are manufactured and are in stock with dealers only meant to sell.No new units are to be produced for banned states and secondly govt. can't ban old two strokes b'coz all goods are carried on those and where the hell RX,RD and Shogun owner go if this rule is applied. .

There is no such rule my friend and if there is a rule then RULES ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN

the bike will not be registered in delhi. You will have to get it registered on your name or someone's name in bhopal itself.

There is no restriction of riding a 2 stroke in delhi, but u cant register it.

Spares are hard to find, though friends down south, can surely help you get the parts you need. Restoration is simple for a 2 stroke ( compared to a 4 stroke ), But keep aside a minimum 10-15k for bringing the bike upto some standard of its former glory.

@prakhararya - even i was thinking about all the owners of rx's and RD's

@jd666 - registration as in? the bike is already delhi registered. i hope transfer of owner/ change of owner is applicable in the RC. this is the main problem for me. if i buy the bike, then all the documents should be tranferred in my name. is this possible?

^^ if you have a delhi residence, and the road tax and RC of the bike is current and valid, then you can easily transfer it in your name. Else im guessing you will have to clear the road tax and then get it transferred.

you are lucky to have the original cowling and headlight and indicators.. quite hard to find.

Check the engine for any leaks of oil etc.

                    The bike's condition looks good.

thats regular for such an old machine. You would need to get the gasket changed for the head and block, and it will be ok.

Is the bike in running condition? If yes, first give it for a general service and change the oil, gaskets, get the carburettor washed, check the spark plug condition and replace if not in a good shape.

Get the airfilter cleaned, brake shoes checked, and replaced if necessary. Also get both front and rear shock absorbers checked for proper damping.

Run the bike for a few days, see if there are any wobbles or anything, or any jerky action by the engine. This will help u understand the bike, so you can accordingly carry out the work on it.
