Frankly i just started noticing it. I'm not sure if it was there before. I started noticing it after i had re-fitted the wheel after removing it for puncture repair. It heats up even on ~5 km rides. By hot, i mean its ok to touch on these short rides. I have not gone for a long ride since this.
To check, i once ran the bike in 5th gear, idle RPM, with center stand on for about 20 minutes. I could not see any similar heating, so im not sure if it is from the braking. But maybe its different when there is no load on the axle.
Here is a list of things i suspect and can point out.
1) The axle was misaligned before i had removed the wheel for puncture repair. I aligned it when fitting it back. I dont know how much it ran misaligned.
2) While fitting the wheel back i had greased the axle.
3) Since i did not remove the bearings, i applied a little grease on top of the bearings, but i doubt any grease got inside the bearings. The gaps were so tight.
4) While i had removed the wheel, i washed the inside of the brake drum with water to remove the old filings. Could this have affected the bearings?
The last point is what concerns me the most, but isn't it normal for water to get inside the drum during rains and washing? Please help this scared and confused newbie.
