  • My automobile license stolen! What should I do now?

Hey guys I am in a fix. I had kept my automobile license in my bag but unfortunately that bag was stolen.
Now I am left without the license. What should I do now?
    Please help.

If you have a photocopy of the same, take it to the RTO and ask for a duplicate. You will get it out in about an hour.

However, if you do not have a photo-copy, then he would need to re-apply for the same, or will he be issued a duplicate copy on the basis of an FIR or something?

Register an FIR. Take the copy of the same along with the License number to the Authority and ask for a duplicate. The fee is around Rs 150

@Ken: I believe these days licenses are sent to the address by registered post. I say this because my mom got hers delivered at home.

Edit: An FIR would anyhow be required, to prevent misuse.

He will be issued a duplicate copy. It takes longer to locate even though the whole thing is computerised, the young kid babus sitting out there just wanna make you run around a little!

I forgot the FIR bit though!

Probably. I collected mine on the spot.

All the more reason that we keep our DLs safe and secure, more so for someone who has his DL issued from the North-East!

I don't know how it works if you are from out of state! I am sure it is bigger headache. I guess you will have to go back to Shillong to get it re-issued. Else you pass the dumb tests that they give out to you.

Thanks guys! I must say that the replies were very fast! I fortunately, do have the photocopy of the license. Now all that is remaining is running around the babus...
                  Thanks again.

^^ Good luck with getting the duplicate issued!

Just asking, what is the procedure to club my 4wheeler license to a combined 2/4 wheeler license? I'm yet to have the 2 wheeler license (new rider) done.
