  • Yamaha fz 16 Rim bent.

Hi guys i bought a Yamaha fz 16 in jan 2009, its hardly been a driving of 7000km in city and highways.
once i hit a pothhole at 80kmph, boom my rear rim got bent. and yesterday i checked my bike as it wobbled a lot and for a heartache my front rim is also bent.

causes: few say its coz of bad roads.other says its coz of poor quality of the rims. else its due to the low profile tyres.

    wat ever it is.
i am seeking for a remedy. should i replace with a new rim form yamaha or should i go for aftermarket rims?

plz do give some suggesions. video attached.YouTube - yamaha fz 16 bent rim.3gp

Not surprised, I had the same issue. Both my rims had dented at the same time. When I went to the service center they showed me 5 more bikes with the same problem. It's a Fz16 special!

@BLKHRT - You're from Chennai isn't it? Take it to Ambal in Kilpauk & get it fixed.

That mechanic just used hammer and placed the rim on some paritcular shaped wood blocks. He said rim this should be hammered in such a way that it don't get cracked. IT should be done gently. U check with some tyre alignment shop. They might help u in this case. mine was almost 3 inch bend.

Otherwise the other solution is either a rim change or a tube.

                      Hey blkhrt,

The bent or dented rims can be fixed by an expert.
Coz even my cousins fz back rims had a dent and i had it removed.

AFAIK The FZ RIMs are made of a casting and an alloy that cant be heat treated. You either have to hammer it back (which can risk it to break) or attempt a pressure treatment at the 'leth' wallah....

PS: Bent RIM can be claimed under Insurance

                            Proud Sad owner of FZ

Hi.. i also have this same famous FZ problem..
The rear tire pressure goes down to 15psi next day of filling air.. when i took it to the SVC guys there told me that i have to take it to some other place since the earlier fixed puncture was not holding the air. but i also found the rim was bend.. after reading the posts here now i can make out what actually cause the air to leak so fast.
its really a pain to fill air every day. it would be a great help if anyone could tell me where i can take the bike so that i can get rid of this problem.
currently i dont want (no option ) to change the tyre or the rim.

                            PS. I live in Chennai
