  • HELP: kinetic 98 model ZX

    DESCRIPTION:
kinetic, its a 98 model ZX, black one. currently it has done 69000 kms

    PURPOSE:
use it daily for 35-40 kms

    MODS AND CHANGES:
no performance mods. but engine bored out once and new piston rings when ODO read 60000kms.
front fork and cone set( new ones) from kinetic showroom
changed both tyres from MRF to CEAT
    new clutch plates and belt

    ISSUE:
after the bore was done the engine power and mileage has decreased drastically. earlier i used to get a mileage of 38/ltr and top speed was 90 kmph (Speedo reading)
now mileage is 28/ltr and top speed 70kmph(Speedo)
and the bike slightly wobbles while turning.
the engine when reaches the top speed will make a noise like someones smothering it.

NOW please help me out with this. for what has to be done to get the old performance figures back.

    thanks in advance

1.change re bored cylinder piston kit to new cylinder piston kit.
      2.reprofile the crankshaft if needed.
      3. for wobbling check rim bent or tyre fitment on the rims.
      NOTHING FOREVER,EXCEPT CHANGE.

      Without opportunity,TALENT is nothing.

        1. have changed that as well forgot to mention
        2. could u please throw more light on this.(how and what has to be done)
        3. complete set was changed. including rims and tubes.

previously took the bike to mechanic and saw that the clutch bely was loose, so got the assembly proper. with that there was a little change that was observed with power but at top end it stutters

ask for a compression test by mechanic.

            @moderators,
if you guys can pull up threads relating to engine works or any other processes like the ones posted above will be of great help.
atleast for a novice like me it will.

seriously i dont know what reprofiling of crankshaft is and compression test is..

if i go to mechanic asking for something which i have no idea about then i will surely be taken for a ride. so friends please throw some more light on these things.

            @all
after the engine work is done will plan for cosmetic modifications and performance modifications as well. but that is later part. now help me bring back life to my kinetic

went to mechanic yesterday and had a complete checkup of the vehicle. he says everything is fine.he checked the clutch belt, plates, carb and petrol pipe as well. changed the petrol tap.
we then also put in a different silencer for testing if that was the prob... no go still the same.
and now after all these the initial pick up is losing out as well.should i look into the bore now?

              now this is confusing

and the wobbling thing was done yesterday. there was some bend in the fork( i dont know how). for now the wobbling has reduced to an extent. but i still feel that the front and rear are not co-ordinating properly.

guys help me out with this.

your piston is still new and it is likely that the rings havent propely seated yet, which could be the cause of low proformance/Mileage

a normal kinetic's top end is mostly 75'ish
so your machine aint far behind

cant comment the stability part though

piston is not new.. as i told u all the things were done when ODO read 60000ish now its almost 70000. so i feel it is not new. AND ya i was asked to run it below 50kmph for 2000kms after the bore and piston was done.
                    did it accordingly.

should i consider to relook at the bore work?
or should i redo the clutch work?
                    or check the pistons?
mileage wise i will be happy to see something above 32-33 kmpl,

who's your mechanic BTW? this will probably have alot of bearing because of the quality of work done.

all these days i was giving it to kinetic dealer( D R Motors) in K R Road, bangalore.
now i am getting it done in Rajajinagar, near my house.
He is a Private mechanic, does a lot of bikes. Super Bikes Garage is the shop.
                        He does a decent job.
its he who is bringing it back to life...

                          guys problem solved...

the clutch plate was not getting released to idle position for zero throttle position... and the belt would get loose... so this was the culprit for power loss.

regarding the mileage... adjusted the pin in the carb and now its giving me a decent 32-33ish kmpl..

and finally the instability/wobbling- the front fork was giving the prob, worked it out and tyre pressure was not maintained...
now fixed, but still feel a little pulling to one side (presence of few small bands in rim) and also teh bush in the front tyre is worn out.. will be replacing it soon..

                          thanks guys

@ mods this thread can be officially closed now..

                          cheers

did not want to start a new thread for this so posted in this.

was having a chat with the mechanic regarding the starting problem during cold starts. mech was stating that since the choke of kinetic is automatic it wont release at the right time. so he was suggesting an external choke integrated with the switch console.

i want to confirm if we can add a external choke to the kinetic and advantages and disadvantages.
