  • Honda Unicorn !! Doesnt Start :(

    My bike has done 39k's. For the past few weeks I have been facing a problem. If my bike is parked overnight. The next day it refuses to start. And it behaves as if, you kicking your bike with your ignition off. So most of the time I end up pushing my bike and starting it.

    A week before, push didnt help. So I had to call Honda breakdown service. The guy came to my place. He opening the seat did something with the air filter. the bike started but the race of the engine was not consistent. So he opening the carborator, cleaned a screw kind of thing and it was perfect. (stating there was dust in it).

    After a week, ie. today while returning from office, the race in engine is not at all consistent and it gives the same feeling as when you run out of petrol on bike (jurk kind off, I have fuel in it atleast 4 ltrs) but some how I managed it till home. I am not sure what exactly the problem is. I have been facing this problem for a while now. and I am sure I will end up calling the honda breakdown guy tomorrow .... Can you please suggest / diagnose the problem ????

        I got Tank cleaned in last service. May be I will get it cleaned again.
        Or can it be a problem with carb, can that be changed ?

          Changing a Carb is too costly

          Hey Doku,

          Please confirm the price of new carburettor of Unicorn. I think its very costly. Ask your mechanic to use heavy air pressure pipe while cleaning the carburettor. It can not be cleaned so well without it because it has very tiny holes in it.

            i dont think its the problem wid the carb.. since latest bikes have avery advanced carbs.check ur spark plugs and the CDI coil for any leakage for current.

              Few months back I got the coil changed, but its not genuine honda. So can it be because of that .?. (I have done 2000+ km's after getting it changed)

                    Check the rubber beadings of your fuel tank. Maybe it's a vapour lock.

                      @msn1 : some 5 months back

                      Additional Observation:

                      - RPM goes to zero while driving and engine starts woobling. Then If I accelarate very high, its becomes fine.

                      - Sometimes kick slips completely.

                        Finally gave the bike for service. The guy at honda told if you get carb and Tank cleaned it would be fine. Next day when I went to collect the bike, it was back to square one. The mechanic himself couldnt start the bike. Then he opened the headlight dome and connected two points throguh a small wire and tried kicking the bike. It started but the race was not at all consistent.

                        He then pulled out some wire close to fuel outlet from tank. He adjusted what he called as the "pulse" (which was loose). This time race was consistent. But the mechanic mentioned, if you try a cold start (say in morning) you might face the same problem.

                        So I asked him to keep the bike under observation for yet another day. Today morning I collected the bike, and they say it would be fine now. I am hoping for the same.

                        Any suggestions xbhpians ??
